Set to be Punggol’s first seafront housing district, Northshore is the next district in Punggol to be developed after the Matilda district.

Dubbed “A Smart and Sustainable District”, Punggol Northshore (pictured) will offer about 6,000 new flats, with the first project slated to be launched in 2015.

The distinctive features of the Punggol Northshore include varied building heights which will allow residents to enjoy view of the sea, and a seafront neighbourhood mall.

Northshore will be the first public housing district to be directly connected to an LRT station via a two-storey walkway. Named the “Community Spine”, it will link the LRT station to the coastal promenade. The Central Green flanking the community spine will have eco-features such as a dragonfly pond and bioswales.

Additionally, HDB blocks at Punggol Northshore will be installed with solar-ready roofs to facilitate installation of solar PV systems in future.

Besides this, Punggol Northshore will also be the first district to test-bed smart technologies in public housing. Some of the technologies which will be featured in the housing projects include a smart system to monitor parking demand, lighting with sensors in the common areas and a smart waste management system to monitor waste disposal patterns.

This system will also be implemented in the first housing precinct in Bidadari and Tampines North.

The first public housing project in Bidadari will be launched in 2015. Located near the Bidadari Park and the new Alkaff Lake, it will feature unique design features such as two community malls, a spacious sheltered walkway, roof gardens and community terraces, and garden courtyards.

The four housing districts in Tampines North will comprise a network of green spaces, and the first public housing project there will be launched in November 2014.

The facade of the residential blocks will resemble a canyon’s rock walls, and the ground level of every block will have community “living rooms” with lush greenery and landscaping, where residents to come together and mingle.

Key proposals for the project also include elevated roof garden linkways, car parks with landscaped rooftops, and an entrance park with communal facilities.

In a statement, HDB said housing projects in Bidadari, Tampines North, and Punggol Northshore will have innovative concepts, and capture each estate’s character, history and local flavour.
