What parents predicted a year ago is playing out in real-time.

Sec 3 students taking 8 or more G3 subjects plummeted from 34% down to 14%, while those taking 6 or fewer subjects more than doubled.

Why? Because families are pragmatic. With MOE shifting JC admissions from L1R5 to L1R4 and polytechnics adapting their intake rules for 2028, students are recalibrating for efficiency.

Taking 6–7 subjects easily covers core prerequisites for major local and global universities: 4 years of English, Math, Lab Sciences and Humanities. Cutting that extra subject isn't about slacking off; it's about freeing up critical bandwidth to build a holistic portfolio through leadership roles, CCAs and passion projects.
