Description of the Japanese Language Programme
The primary objective of our modules is the development of communication skills, and you will have many opportunities to learn and use the language both inside and outside the classroom. More emphasis is placed on the development of oral skills at first and the weight placed on reading and writing gradually increases. Structure of the Language Programme
The Japanese language programme consists of eleven modules:
Japanese 1 / Japanese 2 / Japanese 3 / Japanese 4 / Japanese 5 / Japanese 6 / Business Japanese 1 / Business Japanese 2 / Media Japanese / Newspaper Reading / Expository Writing and Public Speaking

Job Prospective
Many of the graduates who took the Japanese language courses have been successful in achieving employment in global companies and now use their Japanese language skills in business situations. Some are teaching English at schools or working for local governments in Japan under the JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching) peogramme. Entry Requirements
Japanese 1 is intended for students who have no formal education in the Japanese language. Those who have previously studied Japanese outside of NUS and want to enroll on our Japanese language modules must take a placement test to determine the modules appropriate for their proficiency levels. Please check the CLS homepage (http://www.fas.nus.edu.sg/cls/) for the dates of the placement test and the pre-requisites/preclusions for the modules.

Eighteen students from Ritsumeikan University visited NUS for the Business Japanese 2 Company Project, and they joined the company visits held on 17-18th September. This exchange was truly significant, marking the largest group and the longest duration in the history of the Business Japanese course. We met for the first time in person for a special joint lesson on 12th Sep, Sat, and throughout the week, NUS students balanced their regular classes while Ritsumeikan students combined their studies with sightseeing around Singapore. A rumor says that tears flowed like the Jewel waterfall at the Changi Airport departure lobby in the early hours of 19th Sep, Sat...lol. But everyone, don't forget—we still have the company visit presentation ahead of us. The project isn't over yet, so let's keep up the hard work until the end of the semester! To the students from Ritsumeikan: we look forward to your continued online support throughout the semester.

On 25th August, Tuesday afternoon, teachers from private junior and senior high schools in Tokyo, representing the Tokyo Private School Foundation, visited NUS for a social gathering with students in Japanese 5, Japanese 6, and Business Japanese 2. The students split into small groups to chat with the teachers, followed by a campus tour. At the end of the day, they observed a Business Japanese 2 lecture and helped the students practice exchanging business cards. The students were nervous as they are not used to using Keigo language, but it was a very valuable learning experience. That's right, Keigo isn't scary! Thank you, teachers!
