FIRST-YEAR ORIENTATION

Dear first-year students from different Universities,

Allow me to give you a few personal orientations as you begin your university journey, if you don’t mind. πŸ˜‚πŸ€¦πŸΏβ€β™€οΈ

1. The Headmaster is called the Vice Chancellor.
2. A lesson is called a lecture.
3. A teacher is called an instructor or lecturer.
4. A class monitor is called a coordinator.
5. A subject is called a course unit.
6. A period is referred to as a credit hour.
7. The school academic officer is the Director for Academic Affairs.
8. School fees are called tuition fees.
9. A classroom is commonly called a hall.
10. Lectures may be conducted in different halls.
11. There are no permanently assigned seats or chairs for students in the halls.
12. There is no fixed time for departure after a lecture; it depends on the instructor and the timetable.
13. Instead of copying notes from the board, you may be required to purchase or obtain handouts.
14. A watchman is referred to as a security personnel/security officer.
15. Homework is called an assignment.
16. Very fair or poor performance may earn an F (fail).
17. A term is called a semester.
