Secret Life of Fatbacks

Secret Life of Fatbacks Official page for Secret Life of Fatbacks. Secret Life of Fatbacks is an extension of Shawn’s Instagram account ().

Shawn Loh began documenting his food experiences since he started reading Law at the National University of Singapore. Initially he turned to food for solace from the rigours of university life, and food eventually became his safe haven away from the horrors of legal practice. However, it dawned on him one day that he has become sufficiently enlightened about the magic of discovering new and good

food, and that it was time to share. For intellectual property reasons, he is unable to name the website anything related to the titular Pokémon character. Feel free to ask him in person what “Fatbacks” refers to. Shawn is not a professional food critic, food blogger or food photographer. He is simply a guy who loves food very much and (likes to think that he has) a quirky sense of humor. He enjoys combining them in his writing, and hopes to put a smile on some faces along the way.

Riverfront Premier, Capella Bangkok (). Situated on the hotel’s higher floors, the 61sqm Riverfront Premier room boasts panoramic views of the Chao Phraya river through floor-to-ceiling windows as well as a private balcony fitted with a divan. The residential-style room plays it hushed shades of grey and beige, with touches of pale and blonde wood. The king size bed features Egyptian cotton linens for a luxurious bedtime experience, while a bedside tablet gives you access to hotel information as well as guest services. The sofa seating as well as work desk are situated next to the windows such that you can always enjoy the scenic river views.

Both the bedroom and the walk-in closet with light-up dresser area are connected to the luxurious marble bathroom, which is furnished with a sizeable egg-shaped bathtub as well as double vanities overlooking the balcony and sparkling waters beyond (not unlike the set-up at Capella Singapore’s Capella Suite). Ultra-fluffy terry-cloth bathrobes are also available for relaxed sofa lounging or in-room photoshoots for your social media posts.

Capella Bangkok is ranked No.3 on and is featured under the “For An Exceptional Thai Breakfast” category in The Ultimate Guide to Bangkok Hotels 2026. Read the full guide here:

Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok at Chao Phraya River (). Boasting towering ceilings which give the room a luxurious airiness, the 50sqm Premier River-View Room at Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok at Chao Phraya River delivers on its titular promise, offering intimately close views of the iconic Chao Phraya River with window-side daybeds and sofa seating for your optimal viewing pleasure. The room plays it all tasteful and subdued with shades of grey, navy and taupe, with various Thai-inspired decorative pieces giving the space a sense of place.

The Chao Phraya River is a key focal point of the property – two infinity pools are situated along its banks; most of the guest rooms and suite boast scenic river views; riverfront French restaurant Brasserie Palmier focuses on seafood in tribute to its past as a fish market; and breakfast venue and Italian restaurant Riva Del Fiume Ristorante boasts terraced riverside seats. You don’t actually have to venture to the riverfront to see water – guests are greeted by water features throughout the property, most notably the terraced waterscapes with tall grass in the main courtyard which resemble flooded rice paddies in rural Thailand. The hotel’s reflective water surfaces, lush greenery as well as soaring, interconnected and light-drenched walkways all contribute to decidedly classy resort vibes as well as an immersive feeling of infinite spatial expanse.

Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok at Chao Phraya River is ranked No.2 on and is featured under the “For Intimate Riverfront Views” category in The Ultimate Guide to Bangkok Hotels 2026. Read the full guide here:

The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon (). Designed by Spanish artist and designer Jaime Hayon and The Standard’s in-house design team, The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon is a visual feast for the senses, playing it all playful arches and fluid shapes, lush indoor and terrace greenery, bold Pantone colour blocking and juxtapositions as well as generous uses of warm alcove lighting. Dramatic art works adorn the walls of the yellow reception area on the 4th level, including Marco Brambilla’s “Heaven’s Gate” video installation behind the reception counter and the vibrant “Flood Plain of the Tributaries of the Orinocco” floral piece from Marc Quinn. The reception area segues seamlessly to The Parlor, the lush social hub which serves as an extension of the reception space and boasts its own cocktail bar counter, DJ Sounds Studio, and outdoor terrace area perfect for bringing your fur-kids (the hotel is pet-friendly). Even the elevators to the guest rooms are differently and strikingly coloured, with the sensually red elevator reminding me of a particularly muscular and throbbing v…(Censorship Board: stop right there. Me: I meant to say ventricle, you presumptuous perverted rooster).

The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon is featured under the “For Instagram-Worthy Whimsy” category in The Ultimate Guide to Bangkok Hotels 2026. Read the full guide here:

[Swipe left] It has been a whirlwind stay at 1 Hotels Tokyo, the mission-driven sustainable luxury hotel set within the higher floors of Akasaka Trust Tower which just opened its doors in March 2026 (). During my stay, I sought sanctuary in a zen Panoramic Tower Studio Suite with pampering Bamford bathroom amenities; had breakfast and dinner at signature restaurant NiNi which plays it all leafy and woody enclave in the day and DJ beats, progressive cuisine and an electrified atmosphere after dark; attended gin-led bar Spotted Stone’s first ever bar shift held in conjunction with Nozawa Onsen Distillery; spent time by the indoor heated pool at Bamford Wellness Spa; and took a ride in a fully electric Audi Q6 e-Tron, offered on a complimentary basis for guests travelling to nearby locations such as Shinjuku and Shibuya.

The opening marks ’s debut in Asia and the brand’s 13th hotel opening since launching in New York City and Miami in 2015. 1 Hotels is one of four brands operated by the newly renamed Starwood Hotels (formerly SH Hotels & Resorts), with the name change signaling the return of the iconic brand name first established by legendary hotelier in 1995.

The revival follows the landmark acquisition of the original Starwood Hotels & Resorts portfolio by Marriott International back in 2016, a deal that significantly reshaped the global hospitality landscape and brought brands such as St. Regis, W and Westin under Marriott’s umbrella.

Pot-au-feu Ryori Joie, the French countryside-inspired restaurant steps away from Shinjuku Gyoenmae Station which specializes in pot-au-feu packed with fresh vegetables (). I visited during lunch service, which currently showcases Japanese soup curry. Guests can select a base soup (choices include Basic, Chili Garlic, Coconut Milk & Lemon, Mushroom Cream as well as Chanterelle Mushroom & Basic among others) and a choice of meat (chicken mince, Iwachu pork mince, white kidney beans, oyster & clam) with their selection of rice size. I had the Chilli Garlic with Oyster & Clam, a comforting and greens-laden affair that simultaneously nourished a seep, primal corner of my soul and yet provided a gently masochistic scorch of heat seldom felt in Japan.

Their pot-au-feu menu suspends after April 2026 to make way for a menu focused on baked pasta which will continue until September 2026. Love the seasonal concept format.
