“ I don’t believe in wisdom of children, nor in the wisdom of the old. There is a moment, a cusp, when the sum of gathered experience is worn down by the details of living. We are never so wise as when we live in this moment. “
Rainy day, photoshoot day!
It’s been raining heavily in southern Taiwan for the past few days.
With the sound of rain pouring down outside, I finally photographed all the ceramics from my latest glaze firing.
I’m planning another bisque firing this week.
Time seems to pass more quickly than I expect, before I know it, it’s already time to load the kiln again.
Whenever I look at my calendar, I get this feeling that time is steadily moving forward, neither too slowly nor too quickly.
And somehow, time takes shape in all sorts of different things: the to-do list for the week, gatherings with family and friends, and little precious moments of me time.
Sometimes, it even seems to have a distinct shape and sound.
The faces of the people I spend my days with, the clay taking shape between my hands, and the sound of conversations unfolding around me.
And perhaps all of this is a reminder of one simple thing: time, once gone, never comes back.
The only moment we can truly hold onto and make the most of is now.
Yesterday, I came across a passage in When Breath Becomes Air that I really loved, and here’s the quote.
I hope that these words can stay with me for a very long time.
“ I don’t believe in wisdom of children, nor in the wisdom of the old. There is a moment, a cusp, when the sum of gathered experience is worn down by the details of living. We are never so wise as when we live in this moment. “
