The university exists to equip and transform leaders in their various disciplines so they too can be agents of transformation in their communities. First established in 2007 as Gaba Bible Institute with 30 students, it was later issued alicense from government Higher Education regulatory agency, National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) to operate as a tertiary institution.
September 2010 - changed location from Gaba, a suburb of kampala to a newly purchased 23 acre campus in Buloba 0.5 Km off Mityana Road, in Wakiso District.
2011 - Changed name to Africa Renewal Christian College after shifting from Gaba.
December 20/2013 accredited and issued with a License by NCHE to operate as Africa Renewal University.
February 28, 2014 - officially launched by the Executive Director National Council for Higher Education – Prof. Opuda Asibo as the 32 nd university in Uganda.

The goal of Africa Renewal University is to build a world-class Christian university
focused on leadership development. The vision is to be a premier Christian University focused on leadership development for the transformation of Church and Society. The mission is to develop generations of Christian leaders whose lives are transformed by rigorous study of Scripture, impassioned love for God, excellence in academics and faithful service to the nations as the body of Christ. Since Africa Renewal Christian College, formerly Gaba Bible Institute (and now Africa Renewal University), opened its doors in 2007, its vision has been and still remains to equip Christian
leaders for the transformation of society. The university aims at training and transforming leaders so they too can be agents of transformation in their communities with the compassion of Christ and the gospel as the foundation and motivation for their work. Firstly, it became one of the six Christian colleges recognized by the government of Uganda through the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE). Secondly, it opened its doors to its first intake of students offering the Diploma in Child Development – a course developed in conjunction
with the Global Alliance for the advancement of Holistic Child Development (HCD). Today, Equipping Christian Leaders for the Transformation of Society

majority of these pioneering students in the Child Development Programme are working in different NGOs, setting a great example of transformational leadership. On 20 December 2013, the institution received approval from National Council for Higher Education to start offering Bachelors programmes. As a result, the university admitted the first group of students on to Bachelors programmes in Child Development, Social Work and Social Administration, Theology and Community Health in 2014. These developments, coming in quick succession, have not only shown the commitment of the staff and leadership behind this institution, but also made this institution a top destination for Christian students seeking training for ministry in the church, with NGOs, and government agencies. Students come from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, and South Sudan. The goal is to establish a premier Christian university committed to equipping Christian leaders for the transformation of society. This they have done by continually
adding new programmes to train leaders with the vision for transformation. In fact, more programmes which are Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Diploma in Business Administration (DBA), and Bachelor of Disability Studies and Special Education (DSSE,) Bachelor of Journalism and Multimedia Communication, Diploma in Journalism and Multimedia Communication and Bachelor of Arts in Education (Secondary), Bachelor of Education (Primary)
