Did You Know?

In 1888, the King's pond at Mengo was stocked with crocodiles, kept ready for those his executioners would hurl in as rebels.

Martyrs' Day 2026 Prayer Diary: Day 4

Martyr Focus: St. Charles Lwanga (January 1, 1860 โ€“ June 3, 1886)
Charles Lwanga (Kaloli Lwanga) was born on January 1, 1860, at Biri village in Buddu County, Buganda Kingdom. He belonged to the Ngabi (bushbuck) clan. His father, Mabingo, was a bark-cloth maker. A strong, athletic young man and skilled wrestler, Charles entered the royal court as a page under Kabaka Muteesa I. Under Mwanga II, he rose rapidly to become the chief of the pages and later major-domo of the royal enclosure.
Following the martyrdom of St. Joseph Mukasa Balikuddembe on November 15, 1885, Charles immediately asked for baptism and was baptized that same night by Fr. Simeon Lourdel. He assumed leadership of the Catholic pages, courageously protecting the young boys (aged 13โ€“25) from Mwangaโ€™s sexual demands, secretly catechizing them, and personally baptizing several, including the young Kizito on the eve of their arrest.
Arrested on May 25โ€“26, 1886, he encouraged the group during their march to Namugongo. On June 3, 1886, at about age 26, he was the first to be wrapped in a reed mat and burned alive.

Martyrs' Day 2026 Prayer Diary: Day 3

Let's pray...๐Ÿ™

Lord, transform me by the renewing of my mind. Cleanse my thoughts from fear, pride, and every lie that opposes Your truth. Help me to reject worldly patterns and to embrace Your Word as the foundation of my thinking. Like Denis Ssebuggwawo, give me boldness to stand for truth and to speak Your Word without fear, regardless of opposition. Strengthen my convictions and align my thoughts, desires, and decisions with Your will. Let my mind be disciplined, my heart steadfast, and my life a reflection of Your truth in all circumstances. Amen.

Martyrs' Day Prayer Diary: Our Martyr of focus today is St. Andrew Kaggwa (c.1856-1886)

Arrested during the 1886 persecution, he was taken to Munyonyo. On May 26, Prime Minister Kintu, jealous of his influence, ordered his hands chopped off before he was beheaded in a banana plantation....

Let's Pray๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

Lord, You promised to remove the heart of stone and give a heart of flesh. I surrender every hardened place within me - every resistance, hidden sin, and compromise. Create in me a tender
heart that responds quickly to Your voice. Like Andrew Kaggwa, grant me courage to live out my faith openly and to share Your truth with others despite opposition. Fill me with Your Spirit, renew my inner being, and align my desires with Your will. Let my life reflect true transformation, that I may walk in obedience, serve faithfully, and remain steadfast in every circumstance. Amen.
