Change is coming...

On June 26, 2020, the Board of Trustees unanimously approved a resolution eliminating Tipi Village as a homecoming activity.

While we appreciate the historical significance of this student activity in McMurry University’s history, McMurry must move forward, demonstrating cultural understanding and inclusion that embody the institutional values consistent with our Christian teachings.

Please take a moment to listen to Dr. Harper’s message regarding this decision.

76 years ago today, a mass-murdering psycho thought he was going to conquer the world. However, a bunch of teenage American boys showed up at his beach party and said, “Nah, bro.” #dday76thanniversary

McMurry is a partner in the Abilene Library Consortium- we are proud to have Eddy as our Executive Director.

We are so proud to have the Texas Librarian of the Year right here in the Storybook Capital of Texas!
Edward “Eddy” Smith, the Executive Director of the Abilene Library Consortium, won the Librarian of the Year Award from the Texas Library Association. The Abilene Library Consortium is a regional nonprofit organization for all types of libraries, museums and information organizations.
Smith was selected because he is an outstanding model of librarianship. He is a broadband evangelist who calls the expansion of broadband to rural areas the economic equivalent of farm-to-market roads.
His advocacy for broadband in rural communities has earned him an appointment to the Governor’s Broadband Development Council, which was established this past legislative session to identify barriers and study solutions related to broadband development in unserved areas.
One of his most impressive contributions was making several visits to Austin to testify before the Texas Legislature during the 2019 session in support of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) Sunset Reauthorization, TSLAC Budget Exceptional Items, and for broadband legislation.
Thank you, Eddy, for your support of our journey to becoming the Storybook Capital of America!

Today on Tuesdays with Ted at the Library we watched 3 thought provoking talks: Stefana Broadbent - "How the Internet enables intimacy"; Sherry Turkle- "Connected but alone?" and Monica Lewinsky"The price of shame". All, especially the last two, are well worth your time. We have to do better.
