Driving with Autism

Congratulations to Jennifer and Samuel Allen on the recent passage of SB 976, The Samuel Allen Law. This law which becomes effective September 1, will allow a person with a Communication Impediment (subcategory: Autism, Asperger Syndrome, Deafness, Hearing Impairment, PTSD, Parkinson’s Disease, Mild Intellectual Disability and more) the option for disclosure when registering their vehicle through the Texas DMV. This will place the diagnosis privately in the Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunication System (TLETS) alerting the officer PRIOR to approaching the vehicle in a pull-over scenario.

Jennifer ('85) is the Founder and CEO of Aspergers101, whose primary purpose is to educate about Asperger Syndrome and High-Functioning Autism.

Jennifer will be presenting at Summit on Tuesday, September 17 at 9:30 am. She will share in a session titled: THE LESS-TRAVELED PATH TO CHRIST: Families, Autism and the Church Today. Mark your calendars - this is a presentation you won't want to miss!

Congratulations again, Jennifer! Thank you for your work in God's kingdom! #aspbergers #aspbergers101 #samuelallenlaw

The Subject of Our Fears: Finding Faith in an Anxious World

"The Christian life ought to be a freeing journey lifting our spirits toward hope. Not a manufactured hope. Not a saccharin-filled, misuse-of-Scripture hope. Not a misguided, the-next-election-will-fix-everything kind of hope. The hope of Christianity embraces a world of hopelessness." -Jason Locke

Make plans to join us September 15-18, 2019 as Summit 2019 explores Sorrow, Hope and Joy.

The hope of Christianity embraces a world of hopelessness. Ours is the most real hope of all, because death sits at its center.

Huge Congrats to Jordan Lee Dooley on the release of her new book, Own Your Everyday! It is rapidly making it's way up the best seller charts as it helps us overcome shame, practice gratitude, and redefine success. Jordan joined us during Summit 2018, speaking to our students on Sunday evening. She and her husband, Matt, spoke in Moody on Monday.

Congratulations Jordan! We are so thrilled to have been a part in your journey. We will continue to encourage you and pray for you as you speak God's love and purpose into the lives of young women!

To the hurting, on Mother's Day | The Christian Chronicle

“Grief and joy can hold hands,” says professional counselor Beverly (Jones ’79) Ross. Ross learned about grief firsthand when she lost her daughter, Jenny (Ross ’00) Bizaillion, in 2010 after a flu diagnosis. Read her thoughts in this recent Christian Chronicle publication.

Also, plan to join us for Summit 2019- Sorrow, Hope, and Joy- as Ross will be sharing about sorrow at the 11 am presentation on Monday, September 16. Make plans to hear her heart in this painful yet beautiful story.

As Mother’s Day draws near, many are celebrating the joy of being a mother. Yet others find this day to be one that places a piercing spotlight on the brokenness of their heart. Those who know me know I love a party! I love to celebrate. However, I remember the agony I felt on …

A Church that Relates to Culture: Discovering a Fitting Spirituality

"Every church is trying to find a fitting spirituality for new generations, all within today’s changing, globalized world. The hurdle of discovering a suitable spirituality is that it must be both diverse and Christ-centered; it must be flexible enough to love all, and it must also be anchored in the truth of Jesus."

In His recent Mosaic article, J. Omar Palafox discusses churches and culture and some ways to discover a fitting spirituality.

Join us for Summit on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 to hear more from Omar as he presents in the Small Church Pathway. Mark your calendars today!

We need to seek to be a church that relates to a culture that is trying to fit their spirituality into their own story and past.

Simple Children’s Ministry: Thinking Intergenerationally

“When children and adults spend time together in worship and fellowship, we get to know each other, learn from each other, and grow together.”

In her recent Mosaic article, Amy Bost Henegar explores congregations moving toward Intergenerational Ministry along with benefits and challenges. “Adults must be encouraged to let their ‘inner child’ worship the Lord as they sing sillier songs complete with shouts, hand motions and an occasional stomp or jump. “

To learn more about Intergenerational ministry, make plans to join us on Monday, September 16, for Summit 2019. Holly Allen and Wilson McCoy will lead an all-day pathway exploring Intergenerational Ministry that you won’t want to miss!

When children and adults spend time together in worship and fellowship, we get to know each other, learn from each other, and grow together.

Why Every Church Should Read Jude

"What do you do in a church of grace when someone is sleeping around? When someone is racist? What do you say to the young person who is exploring their sexuality? What do you say to the one who medicates with alcohol every night?... What does a gracious church do?"

In this article, Eric Gentry shares why every church should read the book of Jude and how "Grace is not a license to sin; it is the power that moves the church toward a holy God."

To hear more from Eric, mark your calendars to attend Summit 2019. Eric will host A Hope and A Future for churches of Christ: Thriving Congregational Vision and Leadership In a New World - an all day Pathway on Tuesday, September 17.

Seldom read, the book of Jude explores themes of grace and holiness, which are difficult for us to hold in the same hand.

Why Do We Need White Crayons? Identifying and Empowering the Often Overlooked

"When I look back over my own life and ministry there are mentors who were in the public eye and held prominent leadership roles. There were also numerous individuals who quietly (with their words and actions) helped mold me into the man, husband, father, and minister I am today."

In this article, Kent Jobe shares four ways spiritual leaders can help their sometimes "overlooked" church members discover how they can participate more fully in the body of Christ.

To hear more from Kent, mark your calendars to attend Summit 2019. He will be presenting in the Small Church Pathway on Tuesday, September 17.

The SHE Podcast

One of our Summit 2018 speakers just released a new Podcast! We brought her to Summit 2018 where she spoke on Sunday night to more than 500 of our female students, and then she and her husband, Matt, spoke in Moody Auditorium during Chapel. If you've got a little time, check out this young woman's stuff. She was a blessing to our students and her presentation has had more than 15,000 views online. We are grateful for her voice to young people.

Pull up a seat and be ready to cast the vision of the woman you are about to become. Join alongside author, speaker, and SHE-E-O, Jordan Dooley, as she invites you into your own story of confidence, intentionality, wisdom, and drive.

How I Moved Beyond The Glamour of Numbers - Youth Specialties

You hear it all the time, “How big is your youth ministry?” “How many showed up to your fall kick off?” “How many small groups do you have?” The list of questions can go on and on. When I started in ministry numbers were everything to me. My identity and ministry success were wrapped up....

Congratulations to our beloved Summit Director, David Wray, who recently received the Jim Womack Award! The award honors former ACU student-athletes who excelled not only on the field or court of play, but also in the classroom.

David is only the 7th recipient of this prestigious award since it's inception in 2007. Please read on the third photo of his notable accomplishments. It is astounding to learn that such a "gentle giant" of a man with a beautiful heart for loving God and neighbors was a formidable force on the basketball courts!

David continues to inspire others through directing Summit, Christian education, spiritual development, speaking engagements and is a mentor to many. He shines God's light brightly and is a blessing to the ACU community.

Congratulations David, wishing you every blessing!

Summit 2018 will focus on“Wholeness in a Broken World: Together Through the Power of the Spirit,” a study of contemporary issues through the book of Ephesians. The Dwelling Place is a come-an- go coffee house which will provide a safe environment for students to reflect on sexual wholeness. Topical videos prepared by Christian teachers and counselors will help participants explore sexual stewardship in a honest manner. The coffee house setting will allow self-guided viewing and video selection. Enjoy the snacks and coffee provided, receive information about further resources, and place a prayer on the prayer wall. We invite you to be a part of this event. Our hope and prayer is that the resources provided will help guide your search for information and on this timely and very personal topic. Sexual stewardship ultimately points towards facilitating hope through community with the body of Christ.

The Dwelling Place will be open on September 17th & 18th from 2pm-10pm in the basement of the ACU student center. Come enjoy a quiet time of careful consideration of God's gift of sexuality.

General information

The national influence of Abilene Christian University’s annual Lectureship began more than 100 years ago. In 2009, this annual Lectureship program dawned the new name “Summit.” Summit provides a space for conversation about real world issues discussed from the perspective of faith. Summit gathers students, church leaders, faculty and Christianity for conversation. Our aim is that participation in this event will challenge you to see life as ministry and equip you to live as a minister in your everyday life. Together we participate with God in His mission for the world. We hope you leave Summit even more committed to following Jesus. Through this conversation, our prayer is that Christ will be seen more plainly in our neighborhoods, office break rooms, community service and churches.
