A Christian Response to White Supremacy (guidebook + videos) | ACU Summit

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we're highlighting this material from the "A Christian Response to White Supremacy" pathway. All of the resources and session recordings are packaged in an interactive PDF guidebook that makes for a great small group curriculum or discussion guide for use in your church or community. We hope you'll carve out the time to listen to these voices and engage with these vital conversations.

Thanks to Dr. Jerry Taylor, Tryce Prince, and the Carl Spain Center on Race Studies & Spiritual Action for shaping and hosting this pathway.

In recent years, the United States has experienced the resurgence of radical and racist ideologies known as neo-Nazism and white nationalism. In this pathway, we examine white supremacy, its threat to a peaceful society, and how Churches of Christ and related institutions should respond to it.

Restorative justice provides a structure for healing severed relationships between people and those who have hurt them through misconduct or crime. This collaborative, peacemaking approach enables the victim to respond to the offender in a way that best meets their needs and ability to move forward.

The modern environmental movement has both attracted and repelled Christians. We argue that its core concept, the care and stewarding of the creation, should be an essential component of Christian belief. In this pathway, we discuss the theology of environmental stewardship.

General information

The national influence of Abilene Christian University’s annual Lectureship began more than 100 years ago. In 2009, this annual Lectureship program dawned the new name “Summit.” Summit provides a space for conversation about real world issues discussed from the perspective of faith. Summit gathers students, church leaders, faculty and Christianity for conversation. Our aim is that participation in this event will challenge you to see life as ministry and equip you to live as a minister in your everyday life. Together we participate with God in His mission for the world. We hope you leave Summit even more committed to following Jesus. Through this conversation, our prayer is that Christ will be seen more plainly in our neighborhoods, office break rooms, community service and churches.
