*** Two for Tuesday*** Only 7 days until graduation! Here are more of seniors that will be walking across the stage next week!

- Belmar García-López accepted a position at Aiken Regional Medical Center in the Intensive Care Unit.
Her advice, "Get organized! Having a planner and writing down the dates of all your exams, homework due dates, clinical days, etc. can help you prioritize and use your time more efficiently. Also, your classmates are the people that can best understand what you’re going through and how challenging nursing school can be. I encourage all of you to show kindness and to help each other grow and succeed. Keep your eyes on the goal! You can do this!"

- T'Keyah Martin-Jones will be working at Augusta University on a General Medicine floor.
Her advice to her fellow nursing peers, “Find something you like to do when you become overwhelmed and stressed, self-care is so necessary! You will see your growth over the 2 and a half year span and realize how much you’ve learned and how far you have come even though it may not seem like it at the moment. Study for tests not only to pass, but knowing that one day this information is needed to save someone’s life. You have been specifically chosen into this program for a reason, be confident in yourself and everything you do. You can do it!”

Thank you to all the seniors who have sent us their tips and tricks on how to make nursing school more manageable! If you are a graduating senior and would like to share your advice, shoot us a message. We would love to feature you in our next senior highlight post!

Only 12 more days until graduation, here some more of our senior highlights!

- Chandra Cole will be working in the Neonatal ICU at Children's Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center. Her biggest piece of advice is to find out how you learn/study best and become a master at it. Don't just study to remember the material for the exam, study to actually absorb it; it'll make you sharper in clinical. Stay on top of your work and don't wait til the last minute to dig into the material from lecture, start as soon as possible! Most importantly, don't give in. It is 110% worth it in the end!

- Hallie McCallister accepted an offer for the Nurse Residency Program at Aiken Regional on a med surg floor. But her heart belongs to the emergency department. Her advice was to always believe in yourself. Never give up, even when faced with failure. Just brush it off and continue forward!

- Kimberly Flanagan will be starting her career in the emergency department at Aiken Regional. The advice that she gave to any nursing student is to never give up! Nursing school may seem impossible at times, but with hard work and dedication anything can be accomplished!

- Brianna Valvano is heading to North Carolina to work in the CVICU at Duke University Hospital. Her advice, "I suggest for all of you to find what type of studying worked in your past courses and stick with it. Personally, I study better alone because I get too distracted in groups! Also, take this time to focus on your career. Focus because the people you will care for will need you to know about disease processes and medications. Focus because one day your assessment finding will be the clue needed to save a life. In clinical, be confident. Patients and families feed off of your first impressions and your energy when you walk in the room. If you are uncomfortable or nervous, they will be too!!! You guys have this in the bag! Finish strong!!"

We are so happy for our hardworking seniors!

*** WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY ***
It's that time of the week again to highlight more of our May 2019 graduates! We are getting closer and closer to graduation, only 21 days and counting!

- Ashlyn Towner will be working on the Neuro ICU floor at Augusta University.
Advice/Tip: Make really good friends during nursing school. I couldn’t have done it without them & they make it so much more bearable! Don't be afraid to ask for help either, all of the professors genuinely care about you and your success; they will go out of their way to help you if you put in the effort. Lastly, do not procrastinate, it never ends well!!

- Hannah Baughman plans to work in critical care.
Advice/Tip: I would say organizing your planner at the beginning of the semester with everything you have to do for every class is extremely helpful, as well as writing weekly to do lists so it isn't super overwhelming to look at. Definitely do not procrastinate, even though that's hard sometimes. And if you are struggling ever, reach out to those around you: professors, friends, and family. This is hard, and it's even harder alone!

- Peyton Smith accepted a position in Labor and Delivery at Prisma Health Richland.
Advice/Tip: Don't ever be afraid to go speak with your professors and always ask upper level nursing students for help or advice if you need it. They want you to succeed and they understand how difficult it is.

*Wonderful Wednesday* USCA SNA would like to highlight our May 2019 graduates! Each and every one worked their hardest and are almost to the end. We are very excited to see them walk across the stage May 8, 2019! Here are some awesome helpful tips from our seniors, as well as what area of nursing they want to pursue or where they will be working:

- Jared Stogner will be working on the neuro floor at Emory in Atlanta, GA.
Advice: Try your best not to get discouraged, we all have rough days/weeks/semesters but it's so important to keep going. Find the way you learn best, be it recording lectures, writing notes, etc. and do it every day!
- Savannah Zerbel will be working on the stem cell and bone marrow transplant unit at AU.
Advice: Don't procrastinate! Try to get ahead and start early on assignments. Also, find a study group that works well for you too!
- Stephen Gordon has plans to work in oncology and continue on to do work in clinical research with focus on clinical trials in the future.
Advice: Listen to the lectures and handwrite them or type them out. Do it in little chunks, which can make it easier to remember.
- Haley Williamson is planning to pursue a job in a critical care setting such as the ICU or the ED.
Advice: Don't wait until the last minute to study, you'll always regret it. Concept maps and my planner saved my life. Always make sure you have a moment or two out of the week to focus on yourself. Don't be too focused on grades, they aren't the end all be all for what's going to make you a good nurse in the long run.
- Jessica Radke will be working at AU on 7S, which covers plastic surgery, ENT, and med surg overflow. But has a love for critical care as well.
Advice: Treat your classmates like your family. Be honest in everything that you do and own up when you are wrong. Lastly, be open to opportunities - don't put all your eggs in one basket for job areas. Something you think you may not love, you may actually fall in love with! Good luck everyone!
- Kristen Roberts is planning on pursing a nursing job in the area of pediatrics.
Advice: YOU CAN DO IT! YOU WILL DO IT! Never be afraid to ask questions, even if they may seem dumb, they aren't. You will have bad days/weeks that make you question why you are in nursing school, but keep pushing through because you are here for a reason! Don't wait until the last minute to study and having a planner isn't a bad idea. Study groups always make studying 10x's better. Don't let one, or a few bad grades define you. Nursing isn't about passing an exam, it's about having compassion and caring for our patients to the best of our ability! Good luck guys!
