Please join Minorities and Philosophy's upcoming panel discussion titled “What can I do with a Philosophy degree?” The event will take place in Humanities 354 from 3-5 PM. Food and refreshments will be served! ALL majors are welcome, it will be a great opportunity to network!
Our panel will consist of:
*Elizabeth Gray*
Elizabeth Gray is the Assistant Dean of College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity
She has been involved in a variety of start-up projects within education since graduating from the University at Albany with a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy in 2008 and a Master’s degree in Philosophy in 2014. In 2010 she founded the Wishi Project, an effort to establish a primary school and provide improved educational opportunities for the children of the indigenous and remote Wishi community in Ecuador. Elizabeth has been recognized as a feature Alumna in the Thirty Under 30 issue of the UAlbany Magazine. The Albany Times-Union recognized her as an outstanding Capital Region Alum. In 2008 she received a SUNY Chancellor’s Award and a University at Albany Distinguished Scholar Leader Award.
*Ray Brescia*
Ray Brescia is an Associate Professor of Law and Director of the Government Law Center at Albany Law School. He received his B.A. from Fordham University in Political Philosophy in 1989 and his J.D. from Yale Law School in 1992. After graduating from law school, he worked at the Legal Aid Society of New York, New Haven Legal Assistance, and the Urban Justice Center, and served as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Constance Baker Motley, U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of New York. He joined the faculty at Albany Law School in July 2007. He is published widely in law reviews, posts regularly on the Huffington Post, and his new co-edited book was just released by Routledge, How Cities Will Save the World: Urban Innovation in the Face of Population Flows, Climate Change and Economy Inequality.
*Cameron Waldman*
Cameron Waldman is a first-year medical student at Albany Medical College. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University at Albany's Honors College in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in philosophy and a minor in bioethics. Prior to entering medical school, Cameron was an ethics research assistant at the Hastings Center, a D.C.-based research institution dedicated to bioethics and the public interest.
*James Walker*
James Walker is Director of Grants and Fundraising at the Asteroidea Health Alliance. James received his PhD in philosophy from UAlbany in 2004. His research interest include ethical issues of war and non-violent means of achieving peace, particularly in East and Central Africa. James became a registered nurse in 2013 and works as an RN on a medical cardiology unit at St. Peter’s Hospital.
