🚨 Happy 49th Chartering Day! 🚨

49 years ago, 30 bold and visionary brothers led by Brother Roosevelt D. Phillips believed in something greater—they believed that Northern Virginia could be more than a region; it could be the foundation for a legacy. With the charter approved on March 6, 1976 by Brother Earl A. Morris, and conferred on June 5, 1976 by Dr. James B. Abram, Jr., Eastern Province Polemarch, our chapter was born in the International Room of Bolling AFB.

And from that moment, we’ve never looked back.

Those 30 men built more than a chapter—they built a standard. A model for not only Kappa Alpha Psi, but for chapters across the entire Divine Nine. Their spirit lives on in everything we do.

From scholarship to service, leadership to legacy—we live the motto: Always First. Always Forward.
We break barriers. We elevate our communities. We represent the very best of what our Fraternity—and our Founders—stand for, 114 years strong.

To our Chartering Brothers—thank you for lighting the path.
To our current members—let’s keep raising the bar.

On Sunday, April 27, 2025, the Alexandria-Fairfax (VA) Alumni Chapter proudly inducted Brothers James E. Tillman, Russ C. Davis, and Rickey C. Butler into the Golden Heritage Group, honoring 50 years of membership in Kappa Alpha Psi. Each received the traditional 50-Year White Jacket, Golden Heritage Medallion, and Certificate.

This marks the 25th time the chapter has celebrated its newly minted Golden Heritage Brothers. A dinner was held at the chapter facility for family and guests.

Brother James E. Tillman was initiated at Eta Alpha (Eastern Kentucky University) in 1975. A Life Member, he served in several alumni chapters and retired as a Major in the U.S. Army. He later held security roles with IACP, AAA, and the EEOC. He and his wife, Lynn, have two children and three grandchildren.

Brother Russ C. Davis was initiated through the Des Moines (IA) Alumni chapter in 1974, after beginning his Kappa journey at Tuskegee Institute. A retired U.S. Air Force Lieutenant General and former Chief of the National Guard Bureau, he was the first African American to hold that post. In retirement, he remains active in education, civic leadership, and consulting.

Brother Rickey C. Butler pledged Beta Chi (Hampton Institute) in 1975 and was commissioned as a Distinguished Military Graduate. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after serving in Korea and the Sinai. Brother Butler is a longtime Life Member, active with the chapter and Antioch Baptist Church. He and his wife Camille have three children and six grandchildren.

We salute these exemplary Brothers for their decades of service and achievement.

For over 30 years, the Alexandria-Fairfax (VA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. along with Hyattsville/Landover MD Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. have proudly hosted Kamp Kappa—a transformative, weeklong camp for young men—completely free of charge.

This is only possible through the generous support of brothers, businesses, and people like you.

As we face growing environmental and societal changes, our chapter is doubling down on one of Kappa Alpha Psi’s core objectives: to inspire service in the public interest.

Our strength lies in our ability to turn external pressures into fuel for collective action. Kamp Kappa is more than a camp—it’s a commitment to developing future leaders by investing in their growth, character, and confidence.

Please help us continue this legacy.

I’d like to give a big shoutout to our Guide Right Director, Bro. Herb Marshall and his committee for leading an outstanding program focused on training for leadership. This fraternity year, four former Kappa Leaguers became Nupes at universities across the country — a true testament to the impact of the work being done. We’re looking forward to welcoming our new fraternity brothers home this summer and having them engage with our Kamp Kappa program.
