The GVSU Department of Modern Languages & Literatures offers courses in many different languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, and Russian.
Our mission is for all students in Modern Languages and Literatures to demonstrate functional proficiency in the four basic language skills (listening comprehension, reading comprehension, speaking and writing), cultural competency and familiarity with literary tradition. Students will possess a general knowledge of the major periods and genres of foreign literature, a broad view of civilization, knowledge of history, social structures and institutions, and an appreciation of diverse cultural values. Students will be culturally and linguistically aware citizens who are able to interact successfully in diverse environments around the world.
Our department office is located in B-2-243 MAK, Allendale Campus.
