Congratulations to Iowa State’s Summer Fashion Camp on being nominated for the Outstanding Youth Program of the Year Award at the 2026 Youth Program Awards and Recognition Reception! ✂️🎉

Led by Yvonne (Heajoo) Lee and Jason Gagnon in the Department of Apparel, Events and Hospitality Management, the camp was recognized for its outstanding contribution to youth development and leadership among Iowa State-sponsored youth programs.

Fashion Camp gives high school students a hands-on introduction to Iowa State’s fashion design and merchandising program through immersive, experiential learning. During the week-long camp, students explore everything from mood board creation and garment design to visual merchandising, all while experiencing life on campus alongside fellow creatives.

Programs like this give future students the chance to discover their passions, build new skills, and see what studying fashion at Iowa State is really like. 👗🎨🧵

Alpacas, llamas, and sheep are helping inspire the next wave of innovation at Iowa State. 🦙🐑

An interdisciplinary research team, including AESHM’s Dr. Rachel Eike, is working with Iowa farmers and processors to better understand the state’s animal fiber system and identify opportunities to make it more connected, efficient, and sustainable.

From supply chains to textiles, this project is helping lay the groundwork for a stronger future for Iowa’s fiber industry.

We’re proud to share that Dr. Eric Brown has been elected Director of Membership for the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education (ICHRIE).

For more than a decade, Dr. Brown has served ICHRIE in multiple leadership roles, helping advance hospitality and tourism education around the world.

At Iowa State, Dr. Brown serves as associate professor and Associate Chair for Undergraduate Academic Affairs in AESHM, where he continues to mentor and prepare students for successful careers in hospitality management.

From the classroom to the community. ✨

Apparel, Merchandising and Design grad students Adeline Heilman and Manu Smriti designed adaptive garments for children with severe disabilities in a summer 2025 course. Now, they’re sharing the impact of that experience during dsm Magazine’s annual “Celebrate Diversity: Embrace Community” event on May 19.

A class project turned into real-world change, and the ripple effect keeps growing.

Graduating summa cm laude with degrees in Fashion Design and Merchandising and Event Management, Anna stood out as a leader and creative force, including her role as managerial producer of Iowa State’s Fashion Show, where she led more than 200 team members.
