Hampshire College

These great pictures are from the double wedding of alum Leslie Mason 74F to long-time, now emeritus Communications Professor David Kerr, and Leslie's sister Wendy to William Hummel, on campus in May 1979.

“This was the first time The Red Barn at Hampshire College was booked for a wedding,” Mason wrote, “and it’s clearly a lucky place because my sister and her husband and David and I have been married for 40 years, going on 41.”

Fun facts: The wedding was catered by Mixed Nuts Coop with alums serving, including Davis Bates 73F, who wrote ‘No Nukes’ with green pepper slices on top of the salad. He'd been known for—and fired for—adding the political slogan to salads in the Dining Commons as a student. "Got written up in Climax by a mod-mate taking a journalism course at Amherst whose professor there put it out over the AP wire. A brief notice in Time magazine. Interviewed on NPR. Kind of fun. Never got my job back, though.”

Deborah K. O'Brien 76F was the wedding photographer and the excellent frog cake maker was Susan (Sooki) Raphael 73F.
