Building Bridges Virtual Showcase - Nazim Mamedov - Our Immigrant Voices Photovoice Presentation
Nazim Mamedov participated in the Our Immigrant Voices course and shares his Photovoice project in this video.
The Partnership for Worker Education is a workplace education partnership at UMass Amherst offering quality, innovative training and education to the diverse employees/staff, including those with different linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
We offer training and education opportunities to frontline workers – maintainers, trade workers, and secretaries to professional, technical and support staff. The courses range from computer and application to “next step” classes that develop professional interpersonal skills and valuable leadership; and one-on-one sessions and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes.
Mission: Our mission is to inspire and support innovative worker learning within the university and beyond. On campus, our goal is to empower UMass staff to learn new skills and gain confidence to improve their professional and personal lives.
Operating as usual
Nazim Mamedov participated in the Our Immigrant Voices course and shares his Photovoice project in this video.
This footage is from an event in our series "Building Our Movements: The Power of Song" where we invited the UMass community to a film screening of Singing Our Way to Freedom followed by a community dialogue with Film Director Paul Espinosa. The event is part of a project called Worker Rights as Human Rights, in partnership with the UMass Labor Center. It is also part of the Office of Equity and Inclusion's Watch.Learn.Grow. film series.
Paul Espinosa is an award-winning filmmaker and president of Espinosa Productions (https://espinosaproductions.com/), a San Diego production company specializing in films focused on the U.S.-Mexico border region. He has been involved with producing films for over 40 years. His many films for PBS include The Lemon Grove Incident, …and the earth did not swallow him, The Hunt for Pancho Villa, The U.S.-Mexican War: 1846-1848, and Ballad of an Unsung Hero. Espinosa’s films have been screened at festivals around the world and have won many awards including eight Emmys.
The event was co-facilitated by Jacob Carter (Project Director at the Partnership for Worker Education, Office of HR at UMass Amherst) and Pat Greenfield (Adjunct Faculty and Former Director at the UMass Labor Center, Retired faculty from the School of Management).
