Kappa Kappa Gamma
Keeping it Klassy since 1870. Welcome to the Delta Nu chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma! Founded at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1942, the Delta Nu chapter is one of 138 collegiate chapters of Kappa Kappa Gamma.
(15)
Our chapter is one of the strongest on campus, as we are the largest women's fraternity in the UMass Greek system as well as one of the largest nationally. Our women are dedicated to the Kappa legacy and place value on leadership, friendship, and scholarship. UMass Amherst has a large community, and our chapter acts as a support system within that community. We are very active members of the community, as we host several educational sessions and philanthropy events throughout the year. Our philanthropy supports Susan G. Komen for the Cure as well as Big Brothers Big Sisters. We host events throughout the year to raise money for these causes, and each sister is encouraged to contribute to their own personal philanthropy. We also encourage every sister to strive for the highest level of achievement and recognize those who excel academically through our annual Scholarship Banquet. The sisters of Delta Nu have a relationship that cannot be described in words. While our involvement in the community is undeniable, our most important role is in each other's lives as friends. These women are some of the best people I know and I am lucky to be able to call them my sisters. Joining Kappa Kappa Gamma was truly the best decision I ever made, and I cannot imagine my college experience without them. We would not be the women we are today if not for this sorority. I have Kappa Kappa Gamma to thank for the friends that I made and the memories that I have, which are sure to last a lifetime. I invite you to further explore our website to learn more about the chapter and what Kappa Kappa Gamma has to offer.
Operating as usual

Rest in peace to our dear sister kate spade new york. Mental health is something that is so important to us. Our Education chair wrote this important post that has touched so many of us. We hope that this available information can help you or a loved one.
It is important to realize that mental health affects all demographics and that anyone can be suffering from this disease.
***Know the Warning Signs***
- Loss of interests
- Feeling βnumbβ or βemptyβ
- Feeling hopeless
- Lashing out at others
- Fatigue and decreased energy
- Fuzzy thinking
- Disordered sleep (either not being able to sleep or wanting to sleep all the time)
- Poor appetite or overeating
- Feeling like a burden to others
- Expressing wanting to end suffering
***How to Help Someone***
- ASK: Talk to them, ask if they are thinking about suicide. Have an open dialogue.
- LISTEN: Take what they are saying seriously. Pay attention to their reasons for being in pain or any reasons they want to stay alive. Help them focus on their reasons for living.
- KEEP THEM SAFE: Have they thought about how they would kill themselves? Do they have access to a firearm? Depending on their answer calling the police or a suicide hotline immediately is important.
- BE THERE: This can be physically presence or speaking with them on the phone. It is important to increase their feeling of connectedness.
- HELP THEM CONNECT: Provide them with resources
- FOLLOW UP: Check in on them and take necessary action
***RESOURCES***
- National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-8255
- UMass Center for Counseling and Psychological Health: 413-545-2337
***Where Do We Go From Here?***
- Eliminate the stigma that surrounds depression: Telling a friend it's "just a phase" or that they'll "get over it" can be extremely harmful
- Talk to your friends and family: Providing an open and understanding dialouge could save a life
- Be there for others: Making a person feel heard and that they are part of a community is essential to their mental health
Mental health and suicide is something that hits close to home for many of us. It is so important to take care of each other, pay attention, and recognize the warning signs.
If anyone is struggling, please reach out to a friend, family member, or a health center.
Kappa Kappa Gamma is deeply saddened by the death of our sister, Kate Spade. Our hearts are with Kate and her family during this difficult time. Kate was initiated into our organization in 1982.

Meet Jilly! Jillianne (Jilly) Theangelic MacDonald was born at 27 weeks by C-section because her mother's water broke early and she contracted an infection. Jilly spent 8 Β½ months in the Davis NICU and was then moved to the PICU for 2 Β½ months. She went home at 10 Β½ months but was back within 12 days. Since birth, Jilly has been a Miracle Child and is now a spokesperson for Baystate Childrenβs Hospital; she has been to every telethon and Radiothon! At 15 years old, Jillianne is such an inspiration. #FORTHEKIDS π
