03/25/2016

Dear Campus Community,
The university is investigating an information security incident in which a hate-filled, racist and anti-Semitic flyer was distributed to networked printers and fax machines at several locations on campus. The flyer, which includes the web address of an organization identified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center, appears to have been transmitted from an off-campus location.
The matter is under active investigation by the UMass Police Department and campus IT officials. If any member of the campus community receives the flyer, please notify IT immediately by writing to [email protected]. Include the name of your office, building, type of device affected, the IP address (if you know it) and the telephone number of an office contact person.
As a campus community, we condemn this cowardly and hateful act. This despicable incident reminds us that we must not be complacent as we continue to strive for a society that embraces diversity, inclusion and equity – a society where everyone feels safe and welcome.
Sincerely,
Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy
