Women of Color Leadership Network

Women of Color Leadership Network Come visit anytime, we're located in 127 New Africa House, UMass.

The Women of Color Leadership Network (WOCLN) provides advocacy, mentoring and training for University women and community women of color in the Five College area. In addition, WOCLN functions as a source site for internships connecting students to those organizations whose focus includes social justice work, outreach, economic and health issues for communities of color. The program works independently and in collaboration with many campus and community groups and organizations.

Mission: The mission of WOCLN is to connect women of color to each other for mutual support and learning. Through mentoring, workshops, events and programming WOCLN raises women’s consciousness around issues of social identities, self-care, and self-expression. This program provides a comfortable space where women of color can discover who they are while achieving academic success. At the WOCLN, women of color gain leadership skills necessary to make a difference in the communities of which they are a part.

Friday Motivation comes from the brilliant Octavia Butler!! It is important to recognize the ways we can grow and heal through difficult situations. Healing is not linear and growth is not a one-way journey, there is a lot of pain, joy, anger, sadness, laughter, and hurt throughout. Your trauma does not define you or who you are meant to be. You have nothing to lose, only things to gain and learn. ✨

A #TBT to our annual series: Body Politics. This series brought so much inspiration, power, and brilliance to our UMass community and remains one of our most beloved series at the WOCLN. We hope everyone is holding loved ones close despite the distance and that all is well. We are always here for you!
————————————
Event description: Body Politics explores a range of contemporary issues including: the inter-sectionality of social identities, cultural appropriation, discrimination, and racism, with a serious intellectual and emotional commitment, as well as wisdom and humor. Manifestations of internalized oppression and the experiences of ever day racism, including feelings about hair texture, skin color, and self-esteem are explored, as well as sexuality, cultural identity and violence. Sisterhood, healing, pride, courage, love and resistance are woven throughout the tapestry of this production.
