When Jea Ramsammy Adams '21 applied for the Barry Goldwater Scholarship Foundation fellowship, she had plenty of in-the-lab research experience to talk about in her application. What if this summer's constraints are keeping you from gaining similar experience? Goldwater has offered this up: "research encompasses all the steps that create and disseminate new knowledge." Just thrilled to pieces to share the news that Dakota Foster '18 has been offered a place in the Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program to pursue a JD at Stanford University! This next adventure comes hard on the heels of her studies at King's College London and University of Oxford through the Marshall Scholarships, which were given momentum from her being named a #Truman Scholar while a junior at Amherst College. How did she do it? Well, what we've witnessed in her is focus, vision, determination, principles, imagination, organization, dedication, humility, and a ton of really hard work, for starters. Congratulations, Dakota! ❤️#onetowatch #oopsshediditagain #amherstpoliticalunion Amherst College Women's Lacrosse Amherst College Alumni #publicservice #nationalsecurity #gogetemdakota

Adept at "repping" Amherst College to campus visitors, Elizabeth Sturley ‘20, will take that #mammoth warmth and Texas spirit across the ocean to Japan as our newest Amherst-Doshisha Fellow! Elizabeth's bright smile and super-positive energy belie her deep commitment to examining restorative, retributive, and post-atrocity justice systems -- the focus of her senior thesis. In Japan, she plans to explore the criminal justice system while also connecting with the Kyoto community through language lessons, field hockey, and hiking. Joey Lupo '20 is looking beyond the immediate horizon, and with good reason! A recent recipient of the Saint Andrew’s Society of the State of New York Scholarship, Joey can see his way across the pond to earning an MSc in High Performance Computing with Data Science at The University of Edinburgh in Scotland! When he's not hard at work doing math and computer science there, he plans to visit sites of military history and, of course, whisky distilleries. A first-class scientist, clear communicator (in English and German), and just really kind person, Ryan McMillan ‘20 is poised to be an outstanding representative of the U.S. in Germany through a research grant from The Fulbright Program. When he's not investigating what the protein protamine does to multi-layered origami structures, he'll continue to sharpen his saber fencing skills with residents of Munich. (Did we mention that he is also a recent recipient of a National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship? Yeah, he is 🙂 Touché and Herzliche Glückwünsche, Ryan! #BarryGoldwaterScholarship Science at Amherst College #ACBCBP #DAADRise

Having devoted untold hours to formal and informal tutoring in English, German, math, philosophy, and American history, it's no wonder that The Fulbright Program has selected Greg Carroll '20 to be an English Teaching Assistant in Germany. A lover of language and clear expression of thought, Greg strives for exactitude in both of his majors (philosophy and mathematics), and seeks to sow seeds of understanding in every encounter. Herzliche Glückwünsche, Greg!

If you know Emilie Flamme ‘20, you know that behind those merry eyes and just-about-to-break-into-laughter smile are burning questions about big topics such as nationalism, religion, migration, citizenship, and belonging. Through The Fulbright Program's research grant, Emilie has been offered the chance to examine questions involving all of these topics in Tomsk, Russia! And with the Critical Language Enhancement award on top of it, she'll get to improve her already advanced Russian language skills. Поздравляю, Emilie! As the daughter of Chinese immigrants, Tara Guo '21 has reflected deeply on what it's like to become proficient in English as a second language. She'll draw upon her 1st gen experience, American Studies & English double major, and devotion to poetry and prose to share her wisdom as an English Teaching Assistant with The Fulbright Program in Taiwan. On the side, she hopes to indulge her curiosity about the Taiwanese contemporary art and film scene. We're sure she'll make a profound impact on her students. Congratulations, Tara!

Enoch Shin '21 possesses them all, and the The Beinecke Scholarship Program knows it. That's why they've just awarded this Amherst College junior a $34,000 scholarship for his future graduate studies in history. Congratulations, Enoch! We know you'll make the most of it!
