What could possibly be more wonderful than a Watson winner? TWO Watson winners! Congratulations to Amherst College seniors Margot Lurie (left) and Eniola Ajao (right)! Margot will explore what happens when extractive industries leave communities and how they recover; Eniola will look at how various modes of non-verbal communication allow communities to define themselves. These projects, born from their academic and personal passions, are sure to sustain their curiosity as they travel the globe. Meet the Watson Fellows: https://watson.foundation/fellowships/tj/fellows

Irma Zamora '17 took a hike to celebrate finishing week 8 during the fall semester of her PhD in English (with a Latinx lit focus) at The Ohio State University. Irma's second year in the program has brought not only more learning but teaching responsibilities, which she says have "led to great moments of reflection and appreciation for where she is." Among other things, Irma is grateful for the support of Amherst College Fellowships. Got an uphill climb of your own? Learn how ACF can support your studies, too: https://www.amherst.edu/academiclife/support/fellowships/amherst. Deadline: FEB 10th

Kai Ellers '19 loves nothing better than making discoveries in physics! Working in Professor Hartmut Haeffner's ion trapping lab at UC Berkeley, Kai uses lasers and electromagnetic fields to cool and trap ions and precisely manipulate their states. The trapped ions are used for research testing fundamental physics as well as developing quantum computing technologies. Kai also discovered that Amherst College fellowships could support his graduate study in STEM. How about you? Composer, producer, and arranger Daniel Langa '18 is in his 2nd year of a Music Theory & Composition master's program at New York University. Dan notes that "even while live performances are impacted, the city still finds a way to be rich with creative energy." Apparently, so does Dan, since he is president of a composer collective called Nevermind The Noise, working on an album of electroacoustic music created from field recordings, and preparing for a recital featuring new compositions based on work by author and artist Aidan Koch. Amherst College Fellowships support Dan's studies. Application deadline is Feb 10th. Learn more: https://www.amherst.edu/academiclife/support/fellowships/amherst Amherst College Alumni
