Association for Women in Mathematics at UMass Amherst

Association for Women in Mathematics at UMass Amherst Welcome to the page for the UMass Chapter of the Association for Women in Mathematics!
(2)

The UMass chapter of the AWM was founded in 2016. The chapter seeks to support women in the mathematical sciences at UMass by building a community of support and intellectual engagement. The chapter aims to help women reach their full academic and intellectual potentials by providing opportunities for women to: engage with their peers intellectually, mentor each other, and network with mathematicians and statisticians from both UMass and other institutions. For more information about our chapter, see our website at: www.people.math.umass.edu/~awm (It is currently under construction!) Although there is a still a long way to go, it is wonderful to see this progress. History in the making for women, especially for minority women! Something we always love to see♥️

This is beautiful. NowThis Politics

EDIT: Added a few more. Historic election for sure!

Over 100 women were elected to the United States House of Representatives.

Join us here on Facebook, Monday, Feb. 19 at 2:30 pm EST for a special Live event with Whitney Battle-Baptiste, associate professor of anthropology. As part of UMass Amherst's celebration of Black History Month and the Amherst Cinema's Science on Screen series, Professor Battle-Baptiste will speak and take questions following a screening of the Oscar-nominated film "Hidden Figures." The film tells the story of black, female mathematicians who worked at NASA during the early years of manned space flight.

"Studying noncommutative rings is fun, but what is even more fun is how this intersects with other fields of mathematics. Some of my work has connections to algebraic geometry, Poisson geometry, invariant theory, and functional analysis." Chelsea Walton, Temple University.
