A big thank you to the 25+ 4-H'ers and their families who came to the fairgrounds today to paint the sides of the sheep barn. Everyone worked hard and we were able to get everything painted in less than 2 hours.

Now the barn is ready for the metal sides and roof to get painted and it will look like a new barn again!

"My hands to larger service" were definitely put into action today on this warm June morning. #thats4h

Forest bathing has benefits for your health!

I have always been an outdoorsy nature person. When I was a kid, I spent most of my time outside – my parents had the hardest time getting me to come back inside at the end of the day. My love of nature continues, and I will share my passion for it with anyone who will listen! I am always dragging...

Shelby County 4-H Federation received a $500 Farm Credit Community Improvement Grant in May. The grant focused on purchasing two special needs swings for Forest Park in Shelbyville. Federation collaborated with the City of Shelbyville and were able to purchase the swing set frame. The project was completed at the end of June. Federation felt the special needs swings were a great addition to the park and will be enjoyed by many.

Federation member Meliah Henning's took a picture of her niece Ellison trying out the swing and she loved it!

Thank you Farm Credit Illinois, the City of Shelbyville and Shelby County 4-H Federation for their generous donations to make this swing set possible! #thats4h

A big thank you to BenchWorx - Jeff Schrock from Toledo who came and worked with Shelby County 4-H'ers at our woodworking workshop.

Jeff and his helpers Karen and Sydney led 4-H'ers through tool safety and members created a name plate for their work bench.

4-H'ers then chose a project to build (we had 3 planes, 2 monster trucks, a boat, 2 tic tac toe boards and a couple of 4-H ribbon holders). 4-H'ers learned to measure, hammer, sand, drill and use a variety of other tools. Everyone's projects turned out great!

Thank you Jeff, Karen and Sydney for a great morning of "learning by doing'. #thats4h

Shelby County 4-H held a Cooking 101 Workshop on Tuesday, June 11. The workshop was led by Carrie Downs of Moweaqua. Carrie owns her own baking business and is a 4-H alumni.

4-H'ers were broken into teams. Each team made coffecake and oatmeal cookies both from the Cooking 101 project manual. Each team did a variation of the recipes (butter vs. margarine vs. Crisco vs sifting vs not sifting) and then were able to taste test and "judge" the finished product.

Everyone had a great time and learned some great baking techniques.

The best part of the workshop was sampling all the goodies and deciding which they thought tasted best.

Thank you to Carrie for sharing her love of baking and her awesome baking skills with Shelby County 4-H'ers!

Shelby County 4-H sponsored a Legobotics Workshop for youth on Tuesday, June 11.

Kids learned how to assemble a Legobotics EV3 robot and then learned basic programming skills. Kids had to complete two different tasks with their robots and it was definitely a learning process as they would try their program, run the robot and see if they could correct their errors until they completed the task. Everyone was successful in completing both tasks and received candy for their efforts.

A big thank you to Jim and Kim Sparks for leading the workshop and sharing their expertise with everyone. Learn by doing was put into action at this workshop!
