Department of Management & Accountancy at UNC Asheville

Department of Management & Accountancy at UNC Asheville The UNC Asheville Department of Management and Accountancy offers academic programs accredited by AACSB International. The study of organizations is a liberal art and as such our students explore phenomena from multiple disciplines to identify, critically examine, and solve complex problems facing organizational decision makers and the citizenry.
(5)

The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International) accredits our two undergraduate degree programs in management and accounting. Both are designed to provide students with the basic skills and knowledge necessary to be empathetic and productive citizens prepared for graduate studies and careers in the non-profit, business, and government sectors. Students majoring in management have an opportunity to explore a variety of emphasis areas including entrepreneurship, finance, global business, human resource management, leadership, marketing, music business, or operations. From introductory courses to capstone courses, the ratio of faculty to students offers an opportunity for students to explore ideas and ask questions that expand and illuminate the lessons. Outside the classroom, faculty interact with students through one to one advising on academic progress, projects, and aspirations. Education is both interactive and ongoing. Students build their capacity to perform as individuals, but they also learn the value of teamwork and the attitudes and actions that support complex, cooperative outcomes. Students have opportunity to expand their understanding, develop leadership, and serve their fellow students. Those who are interested in research work one to one with faculty on undergraduate research projects. Internships can provide a test of practical applications of concepts learned in the classroom. Service learning is also integrated into much of the curriculum.

After 38 years of teaching and service at UNC Asheville in both the Computer Science Department (1982 - 2000) and Management and Accountancy Department (2000 - present), please help us celebrate and congratulate Dr. Manns on her retirement at the end of December. Her presence, experience, excitement, and commitment have made a profound impact to our students, our campus, and our community. For those that know Dr. Manns or have had her in class know the dedication, sincerity, and energy she brings to whatever task or goal she sets. Here are a few of the impressive awards she has won over the years - Excellence in Teaching Award in the Natural Sciences (1995), University Service Council Award (2013), Alumni Distinguished Faculty Award (2013), Breman Professor of Social Relations (2015-2017), Feldman Professorship Award for Outstanding Scholarship and Service (2015). Dr. Manns is the author or editor of four books including "Fearless Change: Patterns for Introducing New Ideas" and "More Fearless Change: Strategies for Making Your Ideas Happen". Dr. Manns, you are such a cornerstone in this department and on this campus, and you will be missed. Congratulations!! (and we look forward to reading the new book(s?) you have planned!)

UNC Asheville Board of Trustees Colleagues,

It is my pleasure to inform you that Isaiah Green was voted by his SGA peers from all UNC System Schools to be president of the UNC System Association of Student Governments for the 2020-2021 academic year. Isaiah will be a member of the Board of Governors and will represent all UNC students in this distinguished role. He will lead the Student Government Associations across all 17 campuses at monthly meetings. This is the first time a UNC Asheville student leader has been elected to this senior and significant leadership role!

I have been impressed with Isaiah as an high achieving student, a student leader who is deeply admired by his peers, faculty and staff, and as a member of our Board of Trustees. His intellect, leadership skills, and work ethic have had a significant influence on our campus and our Board. We are so fortunate to have Isaiah in this key leadership role statewide. I have no doubt that he will do great work over the coming year for all 250,000 students across the UNC system and for us at UNC Asheville!

Congratulations, Isaiah! We stand ready to support you in this responsibility and we are so proud of you.

Bravo!!
