Why are you thankful for SAI Philanthropies? From SAI member Kate Kirkpatrick: "This November, I'm so grateful for SAI Philanthropies and how it's enhanced my life personally. I've always been involved - I spent 9 years on the national board, and currently I'm serving as the Impact Project Grants Director. Oh, and I've planned the past couple of Phlea Phlam events for our National Conventions! Of course I'm a donor, too. I love the way the grants and scholarships change people's lives, and I'm grateful for the friendships I've made by being involved all these years. If you're looking for a volunteer opportunity to meet sisters from all over the country, *and* make a difference in the world of music, look no further - SAI Philanthropies is an awesome place to get involved."

Did you know today is National Do Something Nice Day? Here are some ways you and/or your chapter can celebrate: Compliment someone, perform an act of kindness, or support a cause (hint, hint Sigma Alpha Iota Philanthropies, Inc.)!
Great story about the power of music!
A story that started in the NICU is now being composed at LSU.
Born prematurely, Gracie Jackson participated in music therapy research conducted by LSU School of Music’s Jane Cassidy.
19 years later, the two reconnected at LSU - where Gracie is a freshman music performance major. https://lsul.su/2pm2jDT
Please take a moment to celebrate our sister, Jessye Norman, who passed away today. In 1965, she became a founding member of the Delta Nu chapter at Howard University. A soprano and SAI Member Laureate, she became an internationally known opera star, winning four Grammy Awards and the National Medal of Arts and the Kennedy Center Honor.
"We are so proud of Jessye's musical achievements and the inspiration that she provided to audiences around the world that will continue to be a source of joy. We are equally proud of her humanitarian endeavors addressing matters such as hunger, homelessness, youth development, and arts and culture education," her family statement read.
A multiple Grammy Award winner, she was a towering figure on the operatic, concert and recital stages.

Today concludes National Hazing Prevention Week. We hope you have learned more about hazing and its effects. Join us in rising up, banding together, and stomping out hazing!
DAY 5: “It takes courage to stand up for what’s right. It takes strength to oppose a norm. It takes guts to solve a problem. But the truth is, individuals don’t cause change alone; they cause change together. Because with people backing you, you have courage; with people helping you, you have strength; and with more bodies behind you, you have more guts.” –Eric Jiang, BASIS Peoria, AZ, National Hazing Prevention Week NFHS High School Essay contest first place winner
DAY 4: For each activity your organization engages, make sure that activity relates to the mission and values of Sigma Alpha Iota and how the activity meets the objective of membership in SAI. Here are some ways to welcome new sisters into your chapter!
1. FOSTER UNITY: Work together on a service project or teambuilding activity.
2. KEEP IT MUSICAL: Make music the focus of all of your chapter’s activities.
3. GET OUT OF THE MEETING ROOM: Plan get-togethers outside of business meetings for all members to attend.
4. USE AVAILABLE RESOURCES: Utilize your school’s leadership training, guidance, and conflict resolution programs to create a positive chapter environment.
5. INSTILL A SENSE OF MEMBERSHIP: Discuss what brought you to Sigma Alpha Iota, and what membership in SAI means to you.
DAY 3: “To foster a palpable sense of accountability for those within your sector is a step towards actively preventing hazing, this being true even for teens that feel like mere acquaintances bound only by a shared activity.” -- Tera Picente, Thomas R. Proctor High School, NY, National Hazing Prevention Week NFHS High School Essay contest second place winner
DAY 2: “…as a society we can only hope to eliminate such inhumane practices as hazing. We must refuse to be members of the crowd, bystanders, with our phone lights flashing, videos recording. Instead we must RECOGNIZE the issue, PREPARE to intervene, and ACT when we see it happening.” -- Aanika Eragam, Milton High School, GA, National Hazing Prevention Week NFHS High School Essay contest third place winner
National Hazing Prevention Week starts today! Look for a post from us each day through Friday, providing information on what hazing is, how to spot it, and what you can do to prevent it in your chapter and on your campus.
DAY 1: Did you know 3 in 5 college students are subjected to hazing? However, most students are not likely to report the incident, according to stophazing.org. Help stop the cycle by raising the awareness of hazing and how to prevent it.
In preparation for National Hazing Prevention Week, Sept. 23-27, we share a 30-minute video that HazingPrevention.Org recorded. While the video is geared toward parents, it also provides helpful information on preventing hazing. We encourage our collegiate chapters to watch it at their next meeting.
Each year tens of thousands of young men and women get involved with sports, clubs, and organizations at colleges and universities across the country. Whethe...

Build Chapter Synergy!
Activity: Count to 20.
Without any planning or conversation, the group will count to 20. Sounds easy, doesn’t it? Not so fast!
The idea is for the group to count to twenty, one person saying one number at a time. Anybody can start the count. Then a different person says the next number – but if two or more people happen to speak at the same time, counting must start again from the beginning.
Synergy is the idea of a group of individuals bringing their collective energy towards a team vision. We need to promote this, team vision, in our chapters and across our fraternity!
If your chapter has a successful team building, sisterhood, or leadership exercise, please add them to the comments or email Tracey Wygal Withrow with details and pictures, if possible! Let’s share:
Do you have talents and skills that the fraternity could utilize? Fill out our Volunteer Survey! Right now, we are looking for alumnae sisters who have experience with websites and social media, but no matter what your skills are, fill out the form as we always have other needs throughout the year.
For those who would like to be more involved in the Fraternity, the NEB has created a volunteer survey which will enable us to match volunteer's skill sets with specific needs for the Fraternity. Please take time to complete this survey so we can find the perfect position for you!
Today, we dedicated our new museum and members-only rooms at National Headquarters. Thank you Edie Marshall for enabling these rooms to come to fruition!
Hello from National Headquarters! The National Executive Board is visiting for the summer board meeting. Tracey Wygal Withrow, NVP Ritual and Fraternity Education, conducted a sisterhood activity with the Board called M&Ms! This would be a great activity for your chapter to try at a meeting. Some of you have been to a workshop on team building and sisterhood conducted by Tracey at a Province Day or Convention where she demonstrates the activity. First, upon arriving to the meeting space, each member gets a piece of construction paper circle (red, yellow, green, brown, blue, orange). Depending on the color “M&M” received, each member responds to the appropriate prompt- see suggestions in the photo attached to the post. Discuss answers, smile, and laugh! Participants particularly enjoy the activity if they get *real* candy! 🙂 If you read this post, choose a color and answer the question in the comments.
Want to work at National Headquarters? The fraternity is now accepting applications for an Assistant Executive Director! Applicants must be collegiate-initiated sisters and have five+ years of experience in similar roles. Please share! https://www.sai-national.org/about-sai/assistant-executive-director-search.html
