We're so excited about Spring Arts Fest this Friday! And we've got a ton of great music events to come to see! First from 12-1pm in Room 117 in Lipinsky Auditorium student ensembles will be performing followed by an improv session until 2pm.

Dr. Eva Bares will be giving a lecture for Humanities 414 entitled Global Art Challenges. The lecture explores how visual arts addresses issues, such as racism, climate change, and gender equality, that the world continues to struggle with. The lecture will take place in Lipinsky Auditorium from 11-12:15 during Spring Arts Fest on April 19th. Tomorrow, April 16th, the fourth and final film in the Interdisciplinary Studies department four part film series The "Other" in Focus will be happening today. Yamanja is a documentary that follows the history, social challenges, and triumphs in the Candomble spiritual culture in Bahia, Brazil as told through the voices of women leaders. The film screening will take place in the Grotto at 7pm and a brief Q&A will follow the conclusion of the film. Hope to see you there!

Tomorrow, April 2nd, will be the 3rd movie of the Interdisciplinary Studies four part film series The "Other" in Focus. "With All Deliberate Speed" follows the legacy of the landmark Supreme Court decision in Brown v. The Board of Education through first hand accounts of those who were affected by the decision and those responsible for it. "The Unafraid" follows four DACA students in Georgia and their fight for the equal right for education. The screening starts at 7pm in the Grotto. The films include The Unafraid on 2/26, Get Out on 3/19, With All Deliberate Speend on 4/2, and Yemanja on 4/16 all starting at 7pm in the Grotto in Highsmith. When Dreams Take Flight | Department of Music

On Sunday February 24th join the UNCA Wind Ensemble, University Chorale, Asheville Singers, and the Reuter Center Singers in the When Dreams Take Flight concert at 3pm in Lipinsky Hall.

In honor of Black History Month, part of the program will feature compositions by African American composers and poets - When Dreams Take Flight, Glory Day!, as well as tunes and texts important to the struggle for civil rights - Battle Hymn of the Republic. Works by contemporary composers on themes of hope and delight will also be included - Inscription of Hope, O Love and Prayer of the Children.

The concert free and open to the public.

May is an Appalachian American photographer and writer based in Charleston, West Virginia.
