This page will serve as a central clearinghouse for Asian-related events, opportunities, news, and cultural notes relevant to Randolph-Macon College’s Asian Studies Program, and to the Asian region in general. From the terraced rice fields of China to the neon lights of Tokyo, from the tranquility of a Buddhist moss garden to the anxiety of life along Korea’s demilitarized zone, the Asian

region never ceases to engage the inquisitive observer. An Asian Studies major at Randolph-Macon College makes it possible to explore this multifaceted region in depth: language, popular culture, art, society, religion, economy, philosophy, and history are all facets of a core curriculum that leads students towards careers as journalists, public policy experts, government analysts, teachers, and so many more. Asian Studies majors are also enriched by a travel experience to Asia: will it be a J-term course in Kyoto, a semester in Hong Kong, or a summer session in Thailand or Taiwan? All are possible through the College’s J-Term travel courses; strong relationships with colleges such as Kansai Gaidai; and ISEP, which places accepted students in exchange programs all around the world. In the 21st century, Asia has never played so crucial a role on the world stage, as the forces of globalization bind the world’s people together in new and unexpected ways.
