General information

What is Chabad at University of Georgia? • Chabad at UGA is a meeting place for social, educational and cultural events; a place where students seek guidance and advice on whatever issues life presents. • A partnership between the students to help create innovative programming, plan social action projects, promote awareness activities and offer volunteer opportunities. • A home where all are welcome no matter what background or affiliation. • Like a home, our doors never close. • A place where every Jew is family. • A forum where students can question faith without fear of judgment. • A haven to turn to when a student is stressed or lonely and needs a friend to talk to -- at any time of day or night. PHILOSOPHY Chabad at UGA is based on the ideology of Chabad Chassidism, which has at its foundation the encompassing mitzvah ‘to love one’s fellow as one loves oneself’ and to permeate that love with Acts of Kindness and Mitzvahs. We tirelessly deliver a universal message: Each person is invaluable and has a direct and powerful ability to bring wholeness and peace to the world. Chabad at UGA seeks to engage students at their own pace and comfort level through innovative educational and cultural programs. PROGRAMS & SERVICES Chabad at UGA has developed a reputation as an innovator of distinctive educational and social action programming. Additionally, creative hands-on programs on campus raise community awareness, consciousness and pride. Weekly classes are given on various topics such as Mysticism and Jewish law. Of course, the Rabbi and Chana are available to meet with students individually around the clock. FUNDING As a student, community organization, we are committed to providing our programs and services free of charge. No one is ever turned away due to lack of funds. The support for our programs comes solely from alumni, parents and friends. Rabbi Michoel and Chana Refson are the directors and can be reached at 706-369-1289 Rabbi's cell: 706-380-1311

Hello students, For the Advisor Brown Bag series this spring, a couple of Franklin advisors and I are putting together a diversity panel series. The goal of it is to give advisors across campus a chance to hear directly from students of various populations, in the hopes of making us more informed so that we can maximize the advising experience for our students. I am heading the panel on religiously diverse students and am looking for 3 undergraduate Jewish students who would be willing to sit on this panel. I am inviting 3 undergraduate student representatives from the Muslim Student Association to come speak as well. As a former instructor of Religion here at UGA, this is a topic dear to my heart and I feel advisors really need to hear from students about their experiences on campus. Panelists would receive a set of prepared questions, and would also answer audience questions if time allows. My question to you is would you be willing to come share your experience at UGA as a Jewish student with a group of academic advisors? If you need any additional information, I'm happy to provide it. I have also attached a template of how the panels will progress with our standard sample questions. Thank you for your time and consideration, Kate ([email protected]) Special Student Population Panel: Brown Bag Series for Advisors Panel 1: Religiously Diverse Students: Jewish and Muslim student representatives Lead advisors: Kate Daley-Bailey and Jessica Couch Date: Wednesday, Jan. 23rd from 12:00-1:00 pm Room: Pinnacle Room in Baldwin Hall
