Happy Wednesday! Today’s theme for #GlobalGivingWeek is #YouHadMeAtHillel where we’ll be featuring the love stories of students and alumni who met at Hillel! To start we have Cory Bluffestone and Zoe Felber! As Zoe puts it: “Cory and I met my freshman year of opening weekend, when he was the song leading/cooking intern. Cory and I quickly hit it off, and I quickly became involved in Hillel. Now, we’ve been dating for 2.5 years with many more to come, and we have Hillel to thank for bringing us together (and of course, feeding us every Shabbat!) 💕🔯”

We’ll be sharing photos all day long with #YouHadMeAtHillel stories as part of #HillelGlobalGivingWeek! And don’t forget, to donate and double your impact, visit https://donate.hillel.org/donate/ohio-hillel-ggw-2021

Next up for #WhereAreTheyNow is Lilli Sher (Honors Tutorial College ’20), a former OU Hillel student leader, and now the Springboard Social Justice Fellow at University of Chicago Hillel! What’s Lilli been up to since OU Hillel? “I’ve really enjoyed working in the intersection of Jewish values and social justice at UChicago Hillel, including partnering with the University Community Service Center to co-facilitate a program that brings high school and college students together to examine identity through the lenses of art, media, and storytelling. I’m also serving on the planning committee for a Chicago-area racial justice day of learning, and helping teach a Jewish social justice learning fellowship. I am so grateful to OU Hillel for helping me cultivate my leadership skills in Jewish spaces!”

This #GlobalGivingWeek, help us continue to develop students into university and community leaders! Visit https://donate.hillel.org/donate/ohio-hillel-ggw-2021 to make your gift go twice as far!

Our next #WhereAreTheyNow is OU Alum Marc Sherman, who currently serves on our Board of Directors and has become an invaluable Alumni leader. “I started at OU in 1986 studying political science, economics, and maybe journalism? Can’t say I actually remember. After sophomore year, I went to “find myself” in Israel and studied at Haifa University for a year. Took the long way home and returned to OU in 1990 to finally finish my degree in Economics. Fast forward a few years and I'm married, have 2 beautiful daughters, went to law school and then served as a prosecutor with the Bronx DA for a while. I went into the private sector to practice insurance and construction law a few years ago and never looked back. I live and work in Manhattan and my girls aren't kids anymore they're young women. Thankfully, my wife still tolerates me. I am, and always will be, a proud dad, husband and OU alumnus.”

Marc has done so much as a leader for our board of directors. He worked on the team that rewrote our by-laws this year for the first time in a decade and he is always ready for a phone and giving advice. We couldn't do it without him.

Tuesday’s theme for #GlobalGivingWeek is #WhereAreTheyNow! Throughout today, we’ll be featuring OU Hillel Alumni and what they’ve been up to since college! First off we have former Hillel intern and chef Brennan Kaufman from the class of 2018, who graduated with a bachelors in Hospitality Management. What’s Brennan been up to since? “After graduating, I immediately began my post grad career with The Wasserstrom Company as an outside sales account manager for the Northeast Ohio Cleveland region. My role consists of selling food service supplies and equipment to the commercial foodservice world. Everything but the food! Restaurants, hotels, hospitals, country clubs, education and pretty much any other commercial kitchen you can think of. Coming up on my three year anniversary this May, I continue to excel in my sales position and will be transitioning into a managerial role this upcoming June!”

Keep an eye out for more #WhereAreTheyNow posts throughout the day! To make a gift on behalf of the college students and alumni in your life and DOUBLE your impact today, visit https://donate.hillel.org/donate/ohio-hillel-ggw-2021

Our last #HillelCares of the day is to highlight a chef in our community who has dedicated every Tuesday since the pandemic began for free lunches for anyone who needs/wants a comforting meal made from scratch. Chef Emily is a dear friend of Hillel and in November we launched a fundraiser for her FREE community Thanksgiving dinner. Our entire community rallied behind Chef Emily and Tavolino, fundraising $2800 for her to provide over 100 meals on Thanksgiving and to continue Free lunch Tuesdays for many months to come. Today and every day, #OUHillelCares

For our next #HillelCares, we wanted to give a shoutout to our former intern Hannah Movshin for all her hard work giving back to OU’s 4 Paws 4 Ability during our Service Dogs and Challah Dogs fundraiser in the 2019-2020 school year! Hannah organized and managed the event, where we made and sold challah hot dogs and accepted donations for 4Paws. The money raised helped with the expense of training for the service dogs, along with food, newspaper and other supplies needed to help foster and train them! In honor of #HillelGlobalGivingWeek, tag a friend in the comments who is positively impacting their community and showing the world that #HillelCares ⤵️

We’re starting off #HillelGlobalGivingWeek with stories about all the ways #HillelCares. Our students are always looking for ways to help the community surrounding Athens especially for those in need. With My Sister’s Place, a domestic violence shelter for women and children, our student leaders created an entire event around making tie-blankets to donate to the children sheltering there. This year we launched a clothing drive for the women of MSP with donations from sorority women of Sigma Kappa & Alpha Xi Delta.

Our amazing friend, colleague, and OHIO Hillel alumni Stacy Oliver posted these beautiful words of wisdom about the pending moments of transition for our graduates and new freshmen this weekend. As we wait with bated breath for the next adventure we see the sun on the horizon and know that the light follows all of us whether it’s the the moon following the sunset or the sunrise bringing the day. New horizons bring new chapters for all our bobcats to write.
