Today is the last day of #HillelGlobalGivingWeek and we have come so far! As of this morning we have raised $13,343 for Ohio University Hillel, only $1,657 away from our goal of $15,000.
To wrap up this incredible week of giving and commemorate #seniorsendoff, our #HillelHero is Jordyn Zimmerman! Jordyn has been an incredible Jewish leader on our campus and within the Hillel movement for the past four years. As both an Intern and a member of (co-chair this year!) Hillel International's Student Cabinet, Jordyn has advocated for more inclusion and accessibility within Jewish spaces and has helped us better understand how to engage with every Jewish student on campus. As she reflects: "Over the past four years, Hillel has been so many things for me — it’s fostered connections in my life, served as a safe space, helped me build confidence, and encouraged me to develop as a leader. Not only have I grown personally, but I’ve grown Jewishly, as well."
We're so proud of our graduates and grateful for the time they spent on campus and at Hillel. Our relationships with students last far beyond their time in Athens. With your generosity, building life changing relationships can continue long into the future! If you are a parent of a senior we'd love to see you donate $20.20 in honor of your senior! For your last chance to double your impact on Jewish student life in Athens donate at Hillel.org/OhioUniversity
Thank you so much!
As of this morning, we have eclipsed $13,000 in donations for OU Hillel's #GlobalGivingWeek but we're not done yet! We only have two more days to reach our goal of $15,000, and we need you to help us reach this goal! You can be a #HillelHero!
For #ThrowbackThursday our #HillelHero is Rabbi Eddie Sukol! Rabbi Eddie was the director of our Hillel from 1987 to 1991 and now he serves on our Board of Directors. Rabbi Eddie's time in Athens had an incredible impact on his Rabbinic career, as he says:
"I began my rabbinical career as director of the Hillel at O.U. and it's been a lifelong love affair ever since. I'm still in regular contact with former students and with friends that we made in the Athens community. I deeply cherish these relationships. It's an honor to serve on the Hillel Board and I look forward to supporting Hillel for many years to come. Please join me in sharing your generosity with Hillel at OU!"

Today our #HillelHero is Jason Tischler! Jason is a Physics major and just wrapped up his sophomore year at OU. Jason is also the President of AEPi, OU's only Jewish fraternity, and has shown commitment to making other Jewish students feel at home in Hillel like he does. As he puts it, "Hillel has been a second home for me. It's is a place I can study and enjoy Jewish programming." We are so lucky to have Jewish leaders at OU like Jason!

Today on #GivingTuesdayNow our #HillelHero is Matt Freedman. Matt is an Ohio University alumni, AEPi alumni (and former president) and currently serves on our Board of Directors. He's also the Senior VP of Branding for Continental Office, a husband, a father of 3 incredible girls and an all around amazing human. In his own words ...
"It's important for me to support Hillel at Ohio University because it is the best organization for Jewish students in Athens. Hillel's leadership continues to offer a safe place that advocates for Jewish students and their needs. I can't envision a better way to support Jewish students at Ohio University than to support Hillel at Ohio University."
What else can we say? Donate at hillel.org/OhioUniversity and remember all gifts up to $2,500 will be matched this week! Help us hit our $10,000 goal!
#HillelGlobalGivingWeek gives us the opportunity to showcase a new program ... An opportunity to recognize students, alumni, and community members who have created a positive impact on our campus as #HillelHeroes. The Hillel Heroes program will be continued throughout next year as we feature our amazing Jewish students here at OU. Stay tuned for more heroes and reach out to share your hillel hero story.
Our #HillelHero today is the wonderful Hadass Galili! Hadass is an Integrated Language Arts major and was our Ritual and Spiritual Intern this year as a freshman. During her first year in Athens, Hadass had an immense impact on Jewish student life, creating inclusive and exciting events while also meeting with students one-on-one to make them feel welcome and a part of our community. In the fall, Hadass will be Hillel's Student Board President; she will continue to be one of the strongest Jewish leaders on campus, and we are so excited to see what new programs and connections she brings. The future is bright with #HillelHeroes like Hadass at the helm, and NOW is the time to support them!
“To me, Hillel means kehillah (community) and mishpacha (family). Hillel has given me the opportunity to thrive while allowing me to be myself, and find people who are just like me and also not like me at all, and bring us all together to form a beautiful group that i trust more than anything!”

Sarah Livingston, Hillel at Ohio University director, took action after 11 spray-painted swastikas, a depiction of Adolf Hitler and a racial slur were discovered on the graffiti wall near the student center.
“There’s a quote from Martin Luther King Jr. that said hate will never drive out hate, only love will; darkness will never drive out darkness, only light will,” Livingston said. “I really do believe that the only way that we can be better as humankind is to show more love.”

Students, alumni, the Athens Jewish community, & friends:
This morning we received a call from the university that antisemitic and racist graffiti had been spotted on the graffiti wall near Baker Center. We immediately went into action, buying paint, & covering up every vile swastika and vicious word. We have been in continuous communication with university officials about what happened and next steps.
There is NO threat to Hillel or Jewish students at this time. We understand this is upsetting to deal with for everyone, especially on Yom HaZikaron, Israeli Memorial Day. We are here for you if you want to talk about it further. Love will always triumph over hate, and we will stand strong as a university and as a Jewish community - Sarah & Jon
Hebrew Word of the Day: בהצלחה-Good Luck

We are so proud of our amazing Israel engagement intern and his commitment to Jewish life here at OU. Jacob Levin is an extraordinary mensch! OU Oy Vey!
"My Judaism has once again seeped out of the synagogue to be a larger tenet in my life. And I have Hillel to thank for that." After returning from a gap year in Israel, Jacob Levin found his Jewish home away from home at Hillel at Ohio University. Read more here: https://bit.ly/3cG5uJR
