Are hospitals business or service organizations?
Are they more influenced by regulation or tradition?
Should they focus on treating illness or promoting wellness?
Wonder how hospitals factor into the ongoing debates about health care in the U.S.?

These questions are central to the research of Cory Cronin, assistant professor in the Department of Social and Public Health.

At his Café Conversation, “What Does the 'Community' in Community Hospital Really Mean?" at 5 p.m. on Wed., Dec. 4 in Baker Center Front Room, Cronin will lead a discussion of the hospital's role in today's society.

Science Cafés are part of Ohio University’s Café Series, Wednesdays at the Baker Center Front Room. The series provides a venue for students to informally share their interests during a conversational exchange with faculty presenters, staff and the Athens community.

Free coffee is offered to the first 50 attendees, and participants who ask questions can win a free t-shirt. The series is supported by the Ohio University Research Division and Sigma Xi.

The Science Café also may be viewed live or after the event here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLkk5oFUpZDlbQHN-VTizYnomGbcl61iPS

The CCCE provided transportation in our 12-person passenger van so that Associate Professor of History, Brian Schoen, could take his History of Early US Republic on a field trip to Blennerhassett Island State Park!

This collaboration between the CCCE and faculty members at Ohio University truly shows how the CCCE is working to reduce the traditional barriers to community engagement.
