WellWorks WellWorks is a convenient wellness center for the entire community. Massage Therapy, Nutrition Counseling & fitness-related member services to support your goals. We're here for you--regardless of where you are along your wellness journey!
WellWorks is a community initiative of Ohio University's College of Health Sciences and Professions. More than a fitness facility, WellWorks is a convenient wellness center. Treat yourself to a massage from one of our licensed massage therapists, take time to meet with our Registered Dietitian, or establish a baseline for your wellness goals with our exercise physiologist. WellWorks' services and facilities are open to community members and conveniently located on Ohio University's Athens campus in Grover Center. Looking to focus on your fitness goals? Look no further! Our staff is here to help you get the most out of your workouts. Out constant upgrades to equipment and recently renovated group fitness spaces can push your workouts to the next level. Need a little more attention? Our wellness coaching and reasonably priced personal training can offer you personalized guidance and the support you desire. WellWorks is open most days of the year and has convenient hours for both Ohio University employees and members of the community. WellWorks also manages the employee wellness initiative, Healthy OHIO. Available to Ohio University employees enrolled in the medical plan and their benefits-participating spouses/partners, the program is intended to give participants customized tools and resources for a variety of wellness goals. Healthy OHIO is an umbrella program that houses two rewards programs: an online/mobile wellness platform called Virgin Pulse and biometric health screenings. Regardless of your wellness goals, WellWorks is here to support you along your journey.

Senior Noah Callahan has graduated with a degree in Exercise Physiology! Wahoo - congrats, Noah!

Noah is one of those uber reliable employees who takes on a project with great care and attention to detail. On top of that, we always were impressed with his ability to connect with our members and clients.

We're pretty confident Noah will go on to be a meaningful presence in a lot of lives. We'll miss him but are so excited for everyone else who gets to work with him.

When we transitioned to remote work, Courtney didn't miss a beat! Her hard work kept US on track! She's finishing up some incredibly cool programming that will be made available as soon as we can return to campus. We can't wait for you to see her hard work come to life.

When we buy new products, they are often in unnecessary packaging. Be a smart consumer by first choosing to by used products and, if that's not possible, buy products with minimal or no packaging. Disappointed with the amount of unnecessary packaging in something you purchased? Let the manufacturer know! Your voice can have huge impacts on the environment!

Feeling a little stir crazy lately? Take a lunch break each day this week to declutter your house and create a little more Zen in your life by boxing up any unwanted items. Then, you'll be able to easily donate these boxes to local charities, thrift stores or neighbors. As long as items are still in decent condition and are working (or can be repaired), someone else may greatly benefit from reusing your items and you'll benefit from knowing you have a cleaner home and that you helped someone else. Avoid buying new products to fill up your now-clean space!

Do you know how your food is produced and how far it travels? Often, the food we buy at grocery stores has a large carbon footprint due to the processing and travel needed to get it to your plate. Invest in a lower carbon diet this year by purchasing locally produced, organic, non-GMO produce. WellWorks hosts a Produce Buying Club made entirely of locally produced fruits, veggies, herbs and minimally processed shelf-stable food items. This program allows you to choose your size and frequency, making it a great way to ease into increasing your local produce consumption.

Seal Inefficient Spaces: As we prepare to transition to air conditioning, check to see if you need to improve the efficiency of your home. Tighten up loose windows with new locks or weather stripping. Check areas that are most common for air leaks such as attic rafters, attic hatch, plumbing vents, recessed lights, furnace flues and basement joists. In some cases, insulation, spray foam or caulk may be affordable solutions to help you save energy and money.

As you think about a low carbon lifestyle this Earth Month, think about your travel practices (both in the short and long term). Avoid using vehicle transportation whenever possible. If you need to go to a grocery store, check on a neighbor or just get out of the house, try to limit the distance you travel by vehicle. Walking, biking, or scooting to nearby locations instead of driving can help reduce carbon emissions and promote physical wellbeing.

We're partnering with Ohio University's Office of Sustainability to bring you some tips on a low carbon lifestyle this Earth Month.

Today, we encourage you to set up your workspace near a window or in a covered outdoor space and turn off the lights. If that isn't a realistic option for you, consider using fewer, more strategically placed lights and swap out inefficient bulbs with CFLs or LEDs. These lightbulbs typically use about 25%-80% less energy than incandescents.
