Bobcats Who Care is an interactive gatekeeper training program designed to help you respond to individuals in crisis. It will help you develop empathic listening and relationship building skills that will enable you to talk comfortably with someone who is very depressed, and help you connect that person to professional support. You will also learn about information about suicide, including facts, myths, and warning signs. The training requires a three-hour commitment that takes place in one session. After you go through the training, the goal is that you will be more aware, sensitive, respectful, and able to reach out and help support others in need. Bobcats Who Care is based on Campus Connect, which is a suicide prevention gatekeeper program developed at Syracuse University by Dr. Cory Wallack. Students, faculty, and staff interested in receiving the training, Bobcats Who Care, can submit a training request form via www.ohio.edu/counseling/Suicide-Prevention/Bobcats-Who-Care.cfm They may also contact Counseling and Psychological Services.

Mission: Bobcats Who Care is based on the belief that all of us who are part of the Ohio University’s community has a responsibility to look out for one another. This means being able to recognize and support someone who is feeling alone, misunderstood, and depressed. As a gatekeeper trained in Bobcats Who Care, it also means being able to provide referrals to appropriate resources.

After seeing the tragedies that have been happening around the world lately, it's important to also focus on how supportive everyone is. The way the world comes together in times like these is truly beautiful. While we mourn and give our support, don't forget to celebrate the love around us.
