As we kick of the first week of school here at Ohio University it is important to recognize our fall intern Kelsey Kinner, a senior, who was initiated in the spring of 2015. Kelsey gets to spend the fall on the beach and the golf course in Jacksonville, Florida with the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour. Although we will miss Kelsey here in Athens we know she will make us proud in Florida!
Kelsey understands the value of experience in the Sports business world:
"SASM has been incredibly beneficial to me these last few years, especially in regards to networking. I was able to make connections with fellow sigs that helped me when choosing practicum and internship options. Not only has it increased my network, but also my friend group. SASM has given me the opportunity to gain insight into the industry that has also helped me shape where I want to go once school is finished. I'm excited for this internship to gain insight into the golf and tournament side of sport. I'm looking forward to being in Florida for the fall semester and the friendships and networking that will come out of it."
Next up is Jay Emery, a rising Junior, who was initiated this past spring semester. Jay just like a couple of his fellow Sigs, helped to provide summer entertainment back in Athens, Ohio for the Southern Ohio Copperheads of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League, as part of their Game Day Operations team.
Jay learned a lot with the Copperheads and hopes to continue to build momentum: “Gameday operations has taught me that you need a strong work ethic and always be ready to work. This experience has expanded my networking skills and gave me a good feel to an area that I enjoy working in. The summer with the Copperheads gave me a better understanding for my future profession. I hope to continue to build my network through SASM as well as through other relevant opportunities here at Ohio University.”
Check back later on to see updates with Sigs doing fall internships!
Next up is Tim Clark, a rising Junior, who was initiated this past fall semester. Tim just like his fellow Sig, Zach Martin, helped to provide summer entertainment back in Athens, Ohio for the Southern Ohio Copperheads of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League, as part of their Game Day Operations team.
Tim enjoys pursing his passion of sports business with others who share that drive: “Working for the Copperheads this summer was a great experience. Spending the summer with like-minded individuals that are also pursuing a career in sports is what I enjoyed most. That is part of the reason I joined SASM as well, we all have a passion to become leaders in the field of sports business.”
Next up is Cooper Hays, a rising sophomore, who was initiated this past spring. Cooper is making a huge impact as a young student in Battle Creek as the teams Director of Ballpark Operations this past summer. Battle Creek competes in the Northwoods League which is one of the best summer collegiate leagues in the country. Cooper is one of many Sigs to have interned in the Northwoods League this summer including already featured members such as Brad Hosmer and Andrew Mulder.
Cooper is excited he was given a chance to learn and looks to build on it: “This internship was a great start for me, by being out in the sports world there was a lot to learn from it. I was always kept busy with new challenges and solving any problems that came up. It gave me a sense of what the next step could be for me and gave me ideas of what I want to do for next year at school, in Sigma Alpha Sigma Mu, as well as during my next internship search.”
Check back on Monday for more featured Sigs!
