Ohio Crew Alumni Association

Ohio Crew Alumni Association Ohio University Crew Alumni Association In the spring of 1995, the Ohio Crew became a reality. James Wamsley and Ben Stormer put their idea of starting a competitive rowing program here at Ohio University into motion.

James and Ben quickly recruited a highly motivated group of people to get the information, contacts, and resources necessary to start our team. With the foresight and wisdom of our founding fathers, we now enjoy what were at one time unimaginable luxuries of new equipment, traveling across the country to compete, and quickly becoming a dominant rowing program in the Midwest. While our university considers us a Club Sport, we compete at the collegiate level continually striving to better our team, our community, and ourselves. We hail from Athens, Ohio where we row on beautiful Dow Lake, in the heart of Strouds Run State Park.

Who’s in for a 22 minute row next Wednesday for Earth Day?

Earth Day Challenge-April 22
The circumference of the Earth at the Equator is 40,075 kilometers, or 40,075,000 meters. Can we all collectively log that many meters in one day? In honor of Earth Day 2020, we invite you to join us in seeing how many times we can make it around the earth on April 22. Anybody who rows, skis or rides for at least 22 minutes will appear on the honor board. All you have to do is complete the 22 minutes on April 22nd. Let’s see how many times we can collectively circle the earth.

Hello everyone! To help keep the OU Crew network alive and well I created an OU Crew Alumni Network page on LinkedIn. Please join the group so that we can help all current and future members build their professional networks.
Hey OU Crew Alums, I am an account manager at RegattaCentral and we have a newly created position open located in Columbus, Ohio. We are located 10 minutes from GCRA and 5 minutes from Dublin Crew and UA Crew's boathouse. Hoping to hear from some bobcat alums! https://www.facebook.com/pg/regattacentral/jobs/2104953583074202/?source=attached_post_timeline
Now that the graduation hangover has subsided and I've officially competed in my final regatta as a collegiate athlete, I just want to say that I'm proud I made the decision to join Ohio University Men's Crew before I even came to Ohio University. Four great years of working side by side with individuals with like-minded goals and ambitions in life, that revolved around a sport that can only be truly perfected unless the entire crew truly work together to swing as one fluidly orchestrated organ. I couldn't have been more honored to serve on its executive board for a couple of years and finish out my last year as its president. The bond and friendships made on this team I know will last forever. But to the varsity and novice crew of 2016-2017; you will always hold a special place in my heart. I left Athens knowing that the future of our team rests comfortably on the shoulders of men and women with the fire and ambition to take this crew to new heights. To the moments in the boat, I will remember the freezing cold, the annoying heat, the long hours, but the amazing views and feeling of pain and satisfaction after clearing the finish line with everyone in the boat gasping for air. To the moments out of boat, I will do my best to remember every inside joke, all the countless nights at the boathouse, every hilarious laugh, but also every problem we overcame. I will remember every brother who was there for me when I needed them. I'll remember overcoming obstacles with the support of my friends and my crew. I will remember what it's like to be there for someone else when they needed someone. This is no goodbye, just a brag in itself to say that I am proud to be a Bobcat Alumni and till the day I die, a proud rower from Ohio University. I'm proud to say that for my last race as a collegiate rower, Myself, Axel Hamel, Will Eshbaugh, Chris Piercy, and Mackenzie Erin Schoenherr pulled the fastest Varsity 4+ time OUMC has ever posted at Dad Vail Regatta since OU's 2010 V4+, stroked by Tyler Curtis Ardrey (go check the stats).
