Wondering how the temperature in campus buildings is controlled?

Most of the academic and office buildings are controlled by an energy management and control system utilizing Direct Digital Controls . There are manual thermostats in several residence halls and independent residences. The manual controls are replaced with digital as the systems are upgraded. #Energymonth

Throughout August check our social media for posts about energy use at OHIO and other universities! #energymonth

Todays fact is about peak alerts!

A peak alert occurs when all of Ohio’s electric cooperatives approach a new peak demand for electricity usage. This is important because The Energy Cooperative purchases your electricity based on the total number of kilowatt hours of electricity our members use, and also the largest demand for electric power during any one-hour increment.

When new “peak demand,” is set it can mean a higher rate for electricity throughout the rest of the year.

Peak alerts are shared so that members can reduce their usage during those times. By lowering usage during times of peak demand, our members reap the benefit in the form of a lower cost for power.

To read more about this: https://myenergycoop.com/peak-alert/

It’s great to see the changes this program is making so that students and faculty can engage in more sustainable practices! I think one of the best things we can do as individuals is to inform ourselves on the environment so we have a better idea of exactly why we need to practice a greener lifestyle. Personally, I enjoy learning from documentaries as they are easy to digest and often really beautiful! I recently found one called “More than Honey” and it’s about the important role bees play on this planet and even goes as far as to contrast capitalism and craftsmanship within beekeeping practices. I found it on a website called Film Festival Flix which has loads of nature documentaries through their mountain & adventure channel as well as other great films I haven’t seen on other platforms! This has been a great way for me to learn more about why I should practice sustainability and how to implement it in my daily life so hopefully, this is as helpful for you as it was for me!

I am reaching out to you as we at @EchoVoices (link to page https://www.facebook.com/OfficialEchoVoices/) are quite impressed by what your organization and your members embody. Thus, we would like to ask if you are interested in being a contributor for an upcoming social venture that will not only allow your members to connect with each other but reach individuals just as passionate and engaged as you are from all corners of the globe. Based in Orange County, California, we are a social platform focused on causes, doing good, and movements across the globe. There are 4 major parts to our website: 1. Voices: This is for members to share their thoughts and the heart of the platform which is where the name of our platform comes from. 2. World: (News/ Articles/ Opinions/ Insights) We scour all over the world and discover the most interesting, unique, and thought-provoking articles, videos, stories, art, documentaries, and movements that cannot be found on mainstream media to provide our members different perspectives. 3. Mentoring: Members can pose questions to our mentors who are thoughtful leaders in their respective fields. 4. Petition, Movement, and Pay It Forward: To inspire and encourage our members to speak up, share their passions, and inspire others to do the right thing. As a contributor, you will get to interact with like-minded individuals also seeking to raise their voice and be a part of a growing community that is making a real impact on our society. It is important for us to note that this site is not for everyone. We encourage members to think critically about these various issues just as much as the sheer act of speaking up. That is where the challenge lies. Are you up for the challenge? If so, please visit our website: www.echovoices.com.
