Today we want to recognize our Spring MSW-MPH 2020 Graduates! We are sad we cannot gather and celebrate their accomplishments in person, but we will do it virtually! Congratulations Trenaye Youngblood, MSW, MPH and Angela Griffin, MSW, MPH on your graduation; we are so proud of you!
.
Trenaye followed the Micro track for her MSW coursework and completed her MPH in Gerontology. Her main research interest, is the sexual health of older adults, which she focused on in her MPH capstone examining sexual health curriculum for older African American women. Her future goals include working with homeless veterans.
.
Angela followed the Micro track for her MSW and completed her MPH in Health Promotion & Behavior. Angela's career goal is to be "a Licensed Holistic Healthcare Clinician employed in a setting where [she] can interact with diverse populations on the individual and community levels to be able to inform, educate, and empower communities about integrative holistic approaches that contribute to eliminating health disparities, improve access to care, and foster public health policies that encourage healthy habits."
.
We could not be more proud of these two smart, hard-working graduates and know they will go on to make a positive impact on the health and well-being of individuals and communities in their future careers!

On March 25-27, the College of Public Health hosted a 48-hour, Virtual COVID-19 Hackathon with the aim of bringing together public health students of all degree levels and backgrounds in a coordinated effort to provide meaningful, evidence-based public health information for Georgia communities.
.
Six of our MSW-MPH students participated in the event and produced meaningful public health educational materials to benefit communities across Georgia. Visit the page to see materials from all the students who participated in the Hackathon: https://publichealth.uga.edu/service-practice/outreach-programs/covid19-educational-materials/. All materials are publicly available for communities and organizations to use across Georgia.
.
Kim Wolf, an MSW-MPH student in Gerontology created a website and informational materials for older adults called “Stay Home, Stay Engaged, Stay Connected: Activities for Older Adults”: https://www.engagementactivities.com. Sombal Bari, Julianne Blackburn, Brooke Felt, Caitlin Moore, and Tali Wulz (MPH students in Health Promotion & Behavior) created domestic violence resources in both Spanish and English versions. We are proud of the action our students are taking remotely to improve the health and well-being of people in our state!

GUEST COLUMN: How the UGA community can end the stigma around HIV

One of our awesome MSW-MPH students, Jeniece Cordova wrote a guest column to educate the UGA community on HIV and how we all can be allies in breaking the stigma around the condition. Thank you, Jeniece for raising awareness about this important issue.

The stigma surrounding HIV hurts our ability to diagnose and help those with the virus. The UGA community must play a part in fighting this stigma.
