We seek to enhance the academic endeavors of the University, by helping through our success to attract both promising students and the assistance of private philanthropy, and by providing direct financial support. We are committed to the proposition that academic achievement is not and should not be a gift. Rather, it is a challenge that must be met by the individual students, as well as the University. Accordingly, all our efforts are guided by certain values we believe essential to the fulfillment of this task: INTEGRITY By their very nature, athletics inevitably involve character development; for this reason, especially, we must conduct ourselves with utmost integrity. We are to be at all times honest and forthright in our dealings with each other, the public, and the media. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT Our primary purpose is to promote the personal growth and physical well being of our student athletes, to guide them to become in life the best they can be. It is our abiding goal to foster the ideals, standards, and value systems which will enable them to grow spiritually, emotionally and intellectually, and to attain degrees in their chosen fields of endeavor. TEAMWORK We compete to win—as individuals, as team members, and as representatives of this great University. We clearly understand that the success of any one person is always the result of dedicated effort on the part of many people. EXCELLENCE Dedication to excellence should distinguish our efforts in every sport in which we compete and should be reflected in the performance of all our teams and in the fiscal soundness of our programs. Individually and collectively, we strive always to give our all and thereby realize our best possibilities. LEADERSHIP Our goal is to maintain a model athletic program which other colleges and universities may wish to emulate. Dedication to the personal development of our student athletes, unfailing integrity and excellence in our programs, teamwork, and determination to play a leadership role nationally…these are the values which underlie our endeavors and the standards by which we measure ourselves.

Mission: Our mission is to offer nationally competitive intercollegiate athletic programs which reflect the interests of our students and faculty, the Southeastern Conference, the Southeastern Conference, people of Georgia, and the nation which supports our activities. These programs provide a worthwhile experience for our student-athletes by teaching them the basic principles of amateur competition, competitive integrity, fair play, and good sportsmanship.

National Pan-Hellenic Council is composed of nine international Greek letter sororities and fraternities. Each organizations evolved during a period when Black men and women were being denied rights and privileges afforded to others. Racial isolation on predominantly white campuses created a need for Blacks to align themselves with other individuals sharing common goals and ideals. Each has their own distinct heritages, insight into understanding and the development of Black socioeconomic and cultural life. #BHM

General information

The UGA Athletics Student Services has developed many resources to achieve its mission in furthering the educational experience of its Student-Athletes. These services are supported by the UGA Athletic Association in their commitment to serving Student-Athletes. Services available include the Rankin Smith Center, SAAC and L.E.A.D. Rankin M. Smith, Sr. Student-Athlete Academic Center provides the space and cutting-edge resources for all of UGA’s 500-plus student-athletes to achieve their academic goals. Resources at the Rankin Center include: -Tutorial Programs provide student-athletes with academic assistance beyond that which they receive in the classroom. Tutors provide study skills assistance as well as in specific academic areas. -Academic Counselors assist student-athletes to achieve their personal goals by ensuring that they earn a degree and by providing opportunities for personal growth. -Mentoring Programs provide one-on-one academic assistance to student-athletes and helps them determine realistic academic priorities and goals. This is accomplished through the personal relationships the mentors develop with the individual student-athlete. -The Athletic Department Writing Center is an invaluable resource created through a partnership between the UGA English Department and the UGAA Student Services. The ADWC provides tutorial assistance with the Freshmen English courses, as well as preparation for the Regent’s Exam. -The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is made up of student-athletes from every sport to provide a voice for all student-athletes. This group serves as a liaison between student-athletes and the Athletic Association administration. -The L.E.A.D. program was initiated to encourage leadership development in UGA’s most promising student-athletes. L.E.A.D. will assist the student-athletes by reviewing each student-athlete’s current community service, campus involvement and academic and athletic credentials; providing resources to improve deficient areas; explaining the award nomination processes and providing biographical information on past winners; and assisting with preparation for graduate school.
