Students who are under-resourced are often only one financial crisis away from dropping out of school. To ensure Bobcats who experience financial emergencies aren’t faced with that difficult decision, Ohio University’s Division of Student Affairs launched the Emergency Microgrants program in 2019, which awards small-scale funds that ease student hardships and allow them to focus on their education.

This November, we’re sharing the story of the Emergency Microgrants program and the impact it can — and already does — have on OHIO students. You’ll hear from Student Affairs staff, current students, and two OHIO parents with a special connection to the program.

Then, save the date for #GivingTuesday, Dec. 3, and make a direct impact on current Bobcats with a gift to the Student Emergency Fund. Stay tuned each week for new stories at GivingTuesday.ohio.edu!

Today is National Radio Day which allows us to celebrate radio as a medium and focus on local radio and the service that it provides. During my years at ACRN; (1984-1988), the station represented a chance for us to heard locally through Continental Cable and in some of the dining halls. There were a few times where someone would say to me "did you really sing in the shower for that commercial?" Yep, I did, but it did generate ad time and revenue.

ACRN allowed, and still does today, individuals with different opinions and backgrounds to not only develop their skills, but friendships that continue to last a lifetime although we may not see each other much. The picture from my last show that I broadcast in May 1988 shows that bond, and I'm sure others may have similar stories they can share.

The Alumni Society was formed with the purpose of not only maintaining contacts, but also to give back to the current generation of rock lobsters and see where they are taking us with modern media. Being able to give back as your Alumni Society President is an honor and look forward to bringing events and discussions with the other Board Members over the coming months. Please feel free to reach out to me via Messenger or by E-Mail ([email protected]).

It's been 12 years, officially, since the ACRN Alumni Society was established, and we need your help to keep it going. Just as the founding board members (Beam, Coffin, Eakin, Latham, Roehm, Sheridan, Stroud and Wenzel) came together to found a group of alumni to support the station, the students and the mission of ACRN, we need your leadership on the next Board of Visitors. Make a Gift

Greetings Fellow ACRNers:

Two years ago, during the ACRN Media 45th anniversary banquet, we launched The Charles Voge Scholarship. Our goal was to establish the first endowed scholarship for ACRNers. We asked you and your fellow alumni to make a gift to this fund with a goal of raising $25,000.

We had five years to achieve this goal, but we gave ourselves two years so we could issue the first of many $1,000 awards in 2021 — the station's 50th anniversary.

I'm writing today — on the 47th anniversary of the day ACRN first began — to tell you we have not only achieved that goal, but we have exceeded it — all thanks to your generosity and word of mouth.

As we've said in the past, The Charles Voge Scholarship will be an annual award to a sophomore, junior or senior with a financial need who has made a significant contribution of time and talent to ACRN. Though not a requirement, preference will be given to those in the Ohio University Scripps College of Communication.

ACRN is now one of the few student organizations to have a scholarship specifically for its students. We all worked hard to make ACRN stand out while we were at OHIO, and this permanent legacy will be one more way to keep achieving greatness on ACRN’s behalf.

Between now and the 50th anniversary in 2021, the fund will be available for contributions. Our new stretch goal is to raise an additional $25,000 by the 50th anniversary, which would allow us to give two separate monetary awards each year.

Many of your fellow ACRN alumni may not yet know about the scholarship. Please consider forwarding this email to people you know (or copy and paste the text on Facebook).

To give to this scholarship:

1. Go to ohiou.edu/give and click on the GIVE NOW button. Then select “One-time gift” or “Recurring gift.”
2. Check the box that says “The fund I want to support isn’t listed above.”
3. Enter the amount you wish to donate then write the name “ACRN Charles Voge Scholarship” in the box along with the amount you’ll pledge. You must write in the name of the scholarship for your pledge to count toward it.
4. Check “Yes” on “Is this a pledge payment?” if you have previously agreed to donate to this fund. Do not check the box for “Yes, this is an honor or memorial gift.”
5. Fill in your contact and payment info then click DONATE NOW.

Thanks for all your generous support, and I look forward to seeing you at ACRN's 50th anniversary event in 2021. If you have any questions, contact me at [email protected].

General information

There are two types of child organizations which help the OUAA support these goals: chapters and societies. Chapters are centered around geographic locations (Chicago Chapter, Nation’s Capitol Chapter, etc). Alumni societies are parts of the OUAA which represent academic departments, offices, and special-interest groups at the university, such as the College of Business, Sales Centre, and ACRN. Alumni societies serve the University through their respective colleges, departments, or special interest constituencies by providing quality leadership training, communications support, and organizational guidance. Societies exist to promote the interests and welfare of Ohio University and the Ohio University Alumni Association.

How fitting that these were also posted today.
Some of you may see this elsewhere but I wanted to make sure it gets out to all who might want to participate. The Bobcat Mentorship Network (BMN) has launched! https://mentorship.ohio.edu/ There are several ways to participate in the platform including formal match mentoring. The network will match students with alumni based on their industry interests. The fall application for this online program closes on September 18! Visit https://mentorship.ohio.edu/hub/ohio_university/program/ohio-mentoring-program/about to complete the application today. In an informal capacity, there are also options to join a group or have a one-time phone conversation, also known as "flash mentoring." All of these options are available to all students, faculty/staff, and alumni by completing a profile on the Bobcat Mentorship Network (BMN).

I'm a mom looking outside the box for potential OU Alumni that may want to give a small helping-hand to my daughter who will become a Scripps College student this fall of 2018. If you'd take a moment to read my campaign for her, it's appreciated. Thank you. LINK:
Greetings to all, but especially those of the '81-'84 era - last year I joined the birth of a nifty community radio station based out of Urban Artifact, a brewery and performance space here in Cincinnati, Ohio. My new radio show concept has been gestating in my headspace for a while now and it's fun to be back on the aural playground. Here's my SoundCloud link to past episodes.
