This week #MaimoStudentOfTheWeek is our amazing and inspiring alumnus Amanda Avnery And here is why Amanda loved Maimo and the Poland Trip.
“Maimo at UGA with Rabbi G and Batsheva brought even MORE beauty into my life!!! I think back and remember great group conversations at their home in Athens, amazing 1:1s with Batsheva at Jittery Joe’s, a beautiful shabbaton in Toco Hills, and of course - the life changing trip to Poland. Memories made with Maimo inspire me to make a difference in this world! Thank you Maimo for the love and support! Go dawgs!!! “

“Rabbi G, his family, and the Maimonides program introduced me to a warm and welcoming community on campus. There is always an open invitation to converse or ask the questions I have about the complexities of Judaism. I'm so grateful for the positive Jewish community and experience I have gained through Maimonides. It has been so impactful to my time at UGA.”

It’s time for #MaimonidesStudentOfTheWeek and this week we have Josh Cohen sharing with us why he loved the Poland trip. “Going on the trip to Poland with Rabbi Gelbtuch provided with a very valuable experience. I was able to learn about the difficult Jewish history of Poland while being surrounded by other Jewish students. The thought provoking conversations we had led to strong connections and appreciation for the opportunities we have living here. Poland taught me so much about Jewish history and inspired me to further appreciate and explore my Jewish identity.”

It’s that time of week, Maimonides #StudentoftheWeek Becca Nadolne has wonderful words to share as to why she loves Maimo

“I love Maimonides because it gives students the opportunity to start or continue exploring our Jewish learning and understanding on campus. My favorite part about these sessions are the fostered conversations, stemming from Jewish thought or text, which in the end relate to so many different aspects of our lives!”

Our first Maimonides #StudentOfTheWeek is Hannah Hurowitz!!!

Here’s why Hannah loves Maimo
“Maimonides has provided me with an outlet to authentically explore what it means to be a Jewish person in todays world. Every week I look forward to having meaningful discussions with other students on campus who are wishing to delve deeper into Jewish ideals and how it relates to modern society. I am so grateful for Maimonides and all of the opportunities this program has given me in order to strengthen my connection to Judaism and to be the best version of myself.”

Being an international student in the US I know how important it is to have a strong and supportive community around you, and I think that this page is so beneficial to the Jewish student community in Georgia. I wanted to reach out with a way that I have been staying connected with my student “family”, I have been using a streaming platform called Film Festival Flix. The reason this has become my go to site is because it goes away from the mainstream movies that I have watched multiple times. This platform also houses virtual film festivals that you can watch anywhere, like the Chicago Festival of Israeli Cinema, which I knew I had to share with this page. They only have a day and a half left but it is a fun way to watch new acclaimed independent films that have a strong Jewish presence. I would love to share this experience with you and discuss our festival faves.
I'm so glad that the GA Jewish community is staying active in such an uncertain time. I think that one of the best ways to stay connected is through film, as we can share stories about human resilience and faith. Although theaters are closed, I've found solidarity in streaming. One of the more unique ways to watch films online is through Film Festival Flix, which allows us to subscribe to various channels that are catered to your specific interests, with one channel being dedicated to supporting and screening movies from the Jewish Film Festival! The site even offers a one week free trial. Let me know what you think about it :)
