Ohio University CSD

Ohio University CSD This is the official page for the Division of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. The division’s undergraduate program in communication sciences and disorders is one of the largest in the United States, and its graduate programs in speech-language pathology and audiology are consistently ranked among the best in the nation.

We achieved our reputation through a unique curriculum that combines classroom study, laboratory work, and clinical experiences and service learning opportunities — often in conjunction with students in other disciplines within the college and the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. Our graduates leave with a sound understanding of the anatomical and theoretical underpinnings of our field, as well as many hours of hands-on application in a multidisciplinary setting that closely resembles the modern healthcare workplace. Our graduate programs are ranked in the top 40 out of over 300 in the country by U.S. News and World Reports.

Ohio University CSD Honors Tutorial College student, Jenna Barrett, has been awarded with the prestigious Acoustical Society of America Robert W. Young Award for Undergraduate Student Research. Congratulations Jenna!

"My research project is focused on the perception of spectrally-degraded, foreign-accented speech in native English speakers (L1) and non-native English speakers (L2). We are studying how language background and contextual information can impact perception when the properties of a speech signal are altered. I have been working on this project for over a year now as part of my senior thesis. Receiving the Robert W. Young Award is a great honor, and the funds will be invaluable in completing my project. I am excited to present the results of my project in the near future!" -Jenna Barrett

"I am passionate about diversity in the field of speech-language pathology & teletherapy due to the diverse clients we serve. It is vital that minorities see representation of themselves in professions that are predominately White. I’m hopeful that the field of speech-language pathology will overcome the lack of diversity in years to come.” -Sarah Rosbo
