The division’s undergraduate program in communication sciences and disorders is one of the largest in the United States, and its graduate programs in speech-language pathology and audiology are consistently ranked among the best in the nation. We achieved our reputation through a unique curriculum that combines classroom study, laboratory work, and clinical experiences and service learning opportunities — often in conjunction with students in other disciplines within the college and the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. Our graduates leave with a sound understanding of the anatomical and theoretical underpinnings of our field, as well as many hours of hands-on application in a multidisciplinary setting that closely resembles the modern healthcare workplace. Our graduate programs are ranked in the top 40 out of over 300 in the country by U.S. News and World Reports.

Communication Sciences and Disorders students taking CSD 3900, “Aging and Disorders of Communication”, are now certified Dementia Friends Champions. They met with Dr. Bonnie Burman, the President of The Ohio Council for Cognitive Health, which runs Dementia Friends Ohio. Once their intensive training was completed, our students became certified Dementia Friends Champions. This means they can now train other people willing to become Dementia Friends.

These students are the first university student group that has been trained to be Dementia Friends Champions in the state of Ohio.
