MSE researchers Sungmee Park (left) and Sundaresan Jayaraman (right) will lead Georgia Tech’s efforts in FutureTEX — an up to $480 million effort to bring more textile manufacturing and advanced technology back to America.

They will work with other researchers and American manufacturing companies to capitalize on digital infrastructure and other emerging technologies to make the domestic supply network more robust.

While you’re squeezing in the final weeks of pool time, let us show you a pool on campus you’ve never seen. It’s not for swimming though: This 24-foot deep pool is used for underwater acoustic experiments. ME researchers float small boats on the surface and use a 3-ton crane to submerge equipment. The water is heavily chlorinated and really cold … so best stick to the CRC pool for cooling off.

Georgia Tech ISyE researchers in Mohsen Moghaddam’s lab are creating immersive tools and algorithms that transform how people and intelligent machines work together. The goal is to design technologies that amplify human capabilities — both cognitive and physical — so people can thrive alongside AI and robotics.

The Structural Engineering and Materials Lab at Georgia Tech is an 18,000-square-foot space large enough to hold six tennis courts. Here, structural engineers have set up labs to conduct research for impact loads on structures, bridge designs, robotics for automative modular construction processes, and more.
