Clark Atlanta University Psychology major Donnez Porter Jr. (co-author Tamari Richardson) made waves presenting their research, “When We See Us: Exposing the Truth about Internalized Racism on an HBCU Campus,” at the 56th Annual Association of Black Psychologists (ABPsi) International Convention, held July 30 – August 3, 2025, at Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida. ☀️🎓

Guided by Donnez faculty mentor, Dr. Lovett—a passionate Psychology professor dedicated to exploring identity, social justice, and mental health within the Black community—Donnez delivered research that sparked meaningful dialogue and connection. 💬💡

Donnez even had the opportunity to meet the founders of ABPsi and connect with other emerging Black psychologists and psychology majors nationwide—a true full-circle moment in celebrating Black scholarship and self-definition. 🖤📚

CAU Student Accelerates Medical Career at Prestigious Rutgers SHPEP Program
Clark Atlanta University Center for Undergraduate Research and Creativity (CURC) celebrate Biological Sciences major, Amaya Jackson for her selection and participation in the competitive Rutgers SHPEP (Summer 2025 Health Professions Education Program).
This intensive, six-week initiative at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School is designed to prepare future healthcare leaders through a rigorous curriculum of academic enrichment, clinical exposure, and professional development.
Admission is highly selective, supporting students passionate about medicine. Upon acceptance, scholars like Jackson receive a full scholarship covering tuition, housing, and meals, while gaining invaluable mentorship and a significant edge for medical school applications.
Inspired by a drive to advance health equity, Jackson reflects, “The program was transformative, providing clarity on my medical path and fostering my academic and personal growth.”

I’m looking forward to meeting you all at the workshop today. The first half will be a career+values workshop and the second half will be an informational session on summer research, postbac programs, and biomedical PhD programs as related to Stanford, but will be generalizable to other universities across the country.

What: Career+ Values Workshop: How Biomedical Research Aligns with You!
A workshop on how biomedical research aligns with a person’s career goals and personal values. How does a summer research opportunity, a postbac, and a PhD in biomedical sciences (chemistry, biology, biochemistry, chemical engineering, bioengineering, etc.) fit into all of this?

Who: Bria Castellano, PhD from Stanford University and Sarafan ChEM-H
Dr. Castellano leads training programs within the Sarafan ChEM-H Institute, and previously received a BS in Chemistry from San José State University, a PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of California - Berkeley, and completed postdoctoral training at the biotechnology company, Genentech.
