Ready to turn your Spanish language skills into real-world experience? 🌎 The Consulate General of Mexico in Atlanta’s **Student Professional Experience Program** offers students the opportunity to gain professional experience, develop leadership skills, serve diverse communities, and explore careers in public service!

📚 Earn **3 academic credit hours** through SPAN 4465 – Practicum in Spanish while working alongside consulate professionals and making a meaningful impact in the greater Atlanta community.

📅 **Important Dates:**
🗓️ October 19, 2026 – Applications open on Handshake
🗓️ November 13, 2026 – Application deadline
🗓️ December 7, 2026 – Selection notifications
🗓️ January 11, 2027 – Program begins

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month at the Alpharetta Campus!

Dr. Óscar Moreno and Dr. Victoria Rodrigo represented World Languages & Cultures at the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration at Georgia State’s Alpharetta Campus, connecting with students and sharing information about language learning and the many opportunities available through WLC.

We loved seeing students stop by, ask questions, and learn more about how languages can be part of their academic and professional journeys.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the WLC table, and to Dr. Moreno and Dr. Rodrigo for representing our department!

Celebrating Mentoring Excellence in WLC!

World Languages & Cultures is proud to celebrate Dr. María Elena Bermúdez, recipient of the 2026 Kavita K. Pandit Mentoring Excellence Award.

The award recognizes outstanding faculty mentorship at Georgia State and a sustained commitment to supporting the growth and success of others. Dr. Bermúdez was recognized at this week’s university awards ceremony, alongside colleagues and university leadership.

We are especially proud to see the work of mentorship recognized as an important part of the impact our WLC faculty have across Georgia State.

WLC in Leuven! 🇧🇪

WLC faculty shared their work at the 36th International Conference of ASELE in Leuven, Belgium.

Dr. Victoria Rodrigo presented on the use of AI to support research on reading for pleasure and affective variables in Spanish language learning.

Dr. María Elena Bermúdez and Dr. Óscar Moreno presented on integrating AI into the language curriculum to innovate teaching and better serve students.

From research to curriculum innovation, WLC faculty are helping shape conversations about what language teaching and learning can look like in the age of AI.
