188 years ago the Medical Academy of Georgia was founded by the Medical Society of Augusta to address a need to train new physicians. Most recently, in response to the needs of the community, our university changed to Augusta University in 2015. By adopting Augusta University as the brand for the health system, patients and their families, our community understands that the academic medical center advantage means better care and better outcomes. At Augusta University, we are nurses, doctors and caregivers - and we have created a place like no other to benefit the health of you, your family, our community and beyond. Our physicians have the most up-to-date knowledge and training. Many of our health care professionals train the next generation of caregivers, while others conduct pioneering research that improves medical diagnosis, treatments and technology, bringing the medicine of tomorrow to patient care today.
