Bill Gray, Manager of Educational Technology in the Augusta University College of Education, was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the COVID-19 response with an AU Research Institute Award. Gray was recognized alongside Lynsey Ekema, a Mobile/Web Apps Developer for the AU Center for Instructional Innovation, for developing 3D-printed face shields to protect clinical staff during severe medical supply shortages. The shields utilize a simple, inexpensive plastic binder cover that clips into a 3D-printed reusable housing. The design cut through both the cost and sanitation concerns that permeated the early days of the pandemic.
