| Here are the initial nominees for the 38th Student Regent of the University of the Philippines.

The OSR has received formal nominations for the following UP students (in alphabetical order) from the indicated colleges/constituent units:

CO, RENEE LOUISE
UP Diliman College of Law Nominee
UP Diliman College of Mass Communication Nominee
UP Cebu Nominee

KAPUNAN, FRANCESCA ADRIENNE
UP Baguio Nominee
College of Arts and Communication

RASTRULLO, NICO
UP Los Baños College of Development Communication Nominee

SEVERINO, SIEGFRED
UP Los Baños College of Economics and Management Nominee

SUPELANAS, JHONN ISIDOR
UP Cebu Nominee
College of Communication, Art, and Design

The search process has three stages of selection: college-wide, university-wide, and system-wide. Student councils lead the selection process. Nominees will undergo careful deliberations with the respective college and/or university search committees. Only the nominees endorsed by the UP unit after these deliberations will be the ones to proceed to the final stage at the convention of the General Assembly of Student Councils. The GASC, composed of all student councils of the UP System, is the body tasked to determine the final order of the nominees, ultimately selecting the next Student Regent.

The SR is the lone student member of the Board of Regents (BOR). To effectively defend students’ rights and represent our collective stand in governance and policy-making, the SR must constantly consult students in every unit of the UP System and spearhead system-wide campaigns.

We highly call on all students, councils, publications, formations to actively take part in the search. The official memorandum and Codified Rules for Student Regent Selection can be accessed and read here: tinyurl.com/SR38SearchFiles.

[UPDATE ON THE APPEAL FOR SUSPENSION OF CLASSES]

Last November 4, the USC, together with the LCSC, submitted an appeal to suspend synchronous classes and extend academic deadlines from Nov. 9 to 15 due to the impacts of Typhoon Rolly to the students.

The USC has received a response from the OVCAA earlier stating that "suspension of classes is not one of the options to address the concerns and predicaments of students affected by Supertyphoon Rolly". Instead, reaching out to the faculty for consideration was advised, in accordance to the recent memorandum released by the Chancellor on suspension of classes related to weather conditions.

While the CASSC still continues to seek concrete actions on this matter, we would like to the reach out to the students to continuously inform us of those who are directly affected by these typhoons (via bit.ly/UPMTyphoonResponse) so we could urgently attend to their immediate needs.
