Year Up and current student Montay Henson just went viral

4-21-17- For the first time in my life I picked up a hitchhiker. In our 3 mile trip I learned a lot from 24 year old Montay Henson. His parents were dope fiends. He was born a West Baltimore crack-baby 3 months premature. None of his 14 half brothers and sisters have the same father. Last year drugs killed Dad. Because they were either in jail or on the streets Montay 's Grandmom raised him. She did a great job. He told me he'd seen what "the game" did to his parents and he wanted none of it. He got good grades in the Computer Science Program at Morgan State but couldn't afford to graduate. While working as a warehouseman a FB ad for the non-profit "YearUp" caught his eye. 18-24 year olds take a year to get a free practical Tech education. The job placement rate at BCCC is 100%. Montay just snuck in under the age limit. Every day he dresses like this and goes across town to college. He's #1 out of 100 students. In 7 months a cybersecurity job is waiting. Today he hopes to impress a group of visiting businesspeople who came to do mock interviews. He's already impressed me. We met because my route from a fire scene coincided with his route as he "hacked" his way to school. Hacking is an urban-Uber without a cell phone. You flap your hand up & down while you walk the street curb. For a few dollars a "Hacker" will drive you somewhere. Following a firm look-me-in-the-eyes handshake goodbye, Montay pulled out $6 to pay me for the ride. NO WAY, I should have paid him!
