More skills. More confidence. More ways to serve Maine.

Students recently completed EMCC’s Propane & Natural Gas Technician Workforce course, a four-month training program focused on residential and light commercial heating systems.

Through classroom learning and hands-on lab work, students built skills in gas equipment, appliances, controls, basic electricity, and heating system service. The course is approved by the Maine Fuel Board and prepares students to sit for the State of Maine Gas License Appliance Connection and Service Technician exam.

For those already working in the field or looking to expand their career options, training like this helps workers become more versatile, helps employers meet real workforce needs, and strengthens the skilled trades that Maine communities rely on every day.

Eight Maine Construction Academy graduates are leaving EMCC with new skills, industry-recognized certifications, and a clearer path into Maine’s construction workforce.

Over four weeks, students showed up every weekday to learn construction fundamentals, jobsite safety, and hands-on skills that can help them take the next step, whether that is entering the workforce, exploring an apprenticeship, or continuing their education.

Programs like this matter because Maine needs skilled workers. These students are ready to help meet that need.

Congratulations to the graduates. Thank you to Associated General Contractors of Maine and the Harold Alfond Center for the Advancement of Maine's Workforce for helping create opportunities that connect people with meaningful careers.

A day at the races and a reminder that learning does not only happen in the shop.

Our Automotive Technology students and faculty spent time at the NHRA Championship qualifiers at New England Dragway, getting a close look at the speed, teamwork, precision, and industry connections that shape the automotive world. It was a day filled with fun, laughter, and plenty of bags of racecar chips.

Experiences like this help students see where their education can take them. They get to connect what they are learning in class with the people, technology, and opportunities driving the field forward.

Thank you to our friends at Mopar Career Automotive Program for including us in the festivities and to Quirk Auto for providing transportation and food. We are grateful for partners who help make these experiences possible.

EMCC showed up on the national stage. Our students proved they belonged there.

At SkillsUSA Nationals in Atlanta, EMCC competitors represented Maine with skill and focus across carpentry, cabinetmaking, automotive service technology, and pin design. Every competitor earned their place among the best in the country.

A special congratulations to Brevan Kenney, who placed third in the nation in Carpentry. Standing on that stage is the result of hours of practice, attention to detail, and determination.

We proud to celebrate EMCC’s national rankings in Cabinetmaking, Automotive Service Technology, and Pin Design, with each competitor finishing among the top students in the country in their field.

Congratulations to our students and advisors. You represented EMCC, Maine, and yourselves with excellence.

Each year, one student from each EMCC program is recognized with an Excellence in Technology award, honoring the skill, perseverance, and commitment they have shown in their field.

This year’s recipient in Electrical and Automation Technology is Anthony Alberico.

Anthony’s path into the electrical field started with his uncle, Justin Alberico, who first introduced him to the work and taught him the basics. What began as curiosity became a passion for learning, building, and challenging himself to keep improving.

Anthony chose EMCC after a high school teacher recommended it, and the 2+2 pathway with the University of Maine gave him a clear direction for continuing his education.

After graduation, Anthony will work full time as an Electrical and Instrumentation Technician at Sappi, where he previously completed an internship. He will also continue his education through the University of Maine’s Electrical Engineering Technology program, with support from Sappi.

Anthony’s story is a strong reminder of what these pathways can do. A spark of interest, the right support, hands-on experience, and a clear next step can become the start of a meaningful career.

Congratulations, Anthony. We are proud to celebrate your hard work.

Jadin Wilson’s story is one of persistence, support, and possibility.

A first-generation college student and recent EMCC graduate, Jadin has been named the first Maine community college student to receive the Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship, a national honor that will help fund up to $55,000 per year as she continues toward a bachelor’s degree in computer science.

At EMCC, Jadin built an extraordinary record as a 4.0 GPA student, Student Senate public relations officer, TRIO Student Support Services participant, and founder of the coding club and cyber security club.

Beyond the titles and achievements, Jadin is a student who kept showing up, kept growing, and found a place where she could become more fully herself.

“I had a great experience at EMCC. This is where I blossomed,” Jadin said.

We are so proud of Jadin and grateful to have been part of the place where her confidence, leadership, and future took root.

The strongest lessons do not always fit neatly inside a syllabus.

EMCC welding students had the chance to learn from two alumni who know what it takes to turn classroom skills into career-ready craftsmanship. Dalton Rossignol ’22, Welding Lead at Steel Pro, and Johnnie Tofani ’09, Quality Control Inspector at Steel Pro, returned to campus to work directly with students on skills that go beyond the standard curriculum.

For students preparing to enter the workforce, that kind of insight matters. It is one thing to practice a weld. It is another to understand what employers look for, how quality is measured, and how small details can shape the work that comes next.

Students came in on their own time to take part, showing the kind of commitment that carries far beyond the lab. Thank you to Dalton, Johnnie, and Steel-Pro Incorporated for investing in the next generation of welders.
