Yesterday, August 31, Travis celebrated two years of sobriety.

Travis is a Residential Technician at Turtle Mountain Recovery Center and knows firsthand the importance of having people who believe in you and support you through recovery.

Travis completed treatment at Alpine Villa in Phoenix, Arizona, and later began working in the substance use disorder field at Purpose Healing Center as a House Manager. Six months ago, he returned home to Belcourt and joined the TMRC team.

When asked why he chose this work, Travis shared, “I want to help people in the same situation as I was in” and provide the same kind of care and support that others gave him. He also hopes to help people he once used with, along with others who come through TMRC’s doors seeking support in their recovery.

Two years is a meaningful milestone, and we are proud to recognize Travis for his recovery, his commitment to helping others, and his decision to bring that experience back home to serve his community.

Congratulations on two years, Travis!

Saturday was a very special day at Turtle Mountain Recovery Center as two of our own, Mike and Chani, were married at the tipi surrounded by family, friends, and community.

It was such a beautiful day, and it meant a lot to see so many people come together to celebrate them and share in this moment.

Congratulations, Mike and Chani. We are so happy for you both and wish you a lifetime of love and happiness.

Earlier this month, Turtle Mountain Recovery Center recognized Joshlyn Resek as she completed her graduate practicum with us.

Joshlyn is pursuing her Master of Public Health and Doctor of Medicine degrees at the University of North Dakota. With a specialization in Indigenous Health, she chose to complete her project with an organization serving an Indigenous community.

During her time at TMRC, Joshlyn contributed to several important projects supporting staff education and organizational development. She researched training opportunities, helped develop educational resources and policies, and shared recommendations that will support our continued growth.

“My time at TMRC was wonderful. Everyone was so welcoming, and it was great to meet the staff and see how special the community they’ve built truly is. They are there to support and change lives. When I graduate, I hope to also provide care to Indigenous communities.” — Joshlyn Resek

We are grateful for Joshlyn’s dedication, thoughtful work, and the knowledge she shared with our organization.

Miigwech, Joshlyn! We wish you continued success in all that comes next.

The TMRC garden continues to grow!

Earlier this season, staff came together to prepare the garden and plant a variety of vegetables and herbs. It has been exciting to watch the garden grow and see the time, care, and teamwork that has gone into it.

This year’s garden includes a variety of produce, including tomatoes, pumpkins, cilantro, and a Three Sisters planting of corn, beans, and squash, along with many other vegetables planted earlier this season.

We look forward to continuing to care for the garden and enjoying the harvest as the season continues.

Thank you to everyone who has helped make this garden a success!

Honoring the Life and Memory of Savanna Greywind

Turtle Mountain Recovery Center was honored to join community members and Savanna Greywind’s family in remembrance and support.

Born in Belcourt, North Dakota, on August 9, 1995, Savanna’s life continues to be remembered and honored by her family, friends, and community.

This gathering provided an opportunity to come together in remembrance, support one another, and continue raising awareness around Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW).

We are grateful for everyone who gathered to honor Savanna’s memory and stand together in remembrance.

TMRC is grateful to Mikinok Enterprises and the Belcourt Fire Department for their support of our facility and community.

Through Mikinok Enterprises’ community service project, two picnic tables were built and donated to TMRC. We appreciate Terrance Malaterre, Director of Human Resources & Talent Acquisition with Mikinok Enterprises, for coordinating this project, as well as the many community volunteers who gave their time and talents to make these tables possible.

We also thank Layton Vondal and Gary Baker from the Belcourt Fire Department for delivering the tables to TMRC and helping place them at our facility.

These tables will provide an additional outdoor space for our clients, staff, and visitors to gather and enjoy. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this project and supported TMRC.

Congratulations to Our Peer Support Training Participants!

Turtle Mountain Recovery Center was pleased to host Peer Support Specialist training held July 27–30 at Turtle Mountain College.

Peer Support Specialists use their lived experience, along with specialized training, to walk beside others on their recovery journeys. They provide encouragement, hope, practical support, and connections to helpful resources while supporting individuals in identifying their strengths and taking meaningful steps toward their recovery goals.

We are proud to recognize the following TMRC staff members who completed the training:

Trenton • Darah • Leesa • Nicole • Travis • George

Their participation reflects TMRC’s continued commitment to strengthening recovery-oriented, person-centered services within our community.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the training team—Teliea Baker, Kenzie Larson, Bo-Morgan Howling Wolf, and Jana Wolf Necklace—for sharing their knowledge, experience, and encouragement throughout the four-day training.

TMRC was honored to host this opportunity and provide breakfast and lunch for participants each day. We also thank Turtle Mountain College for welcoming the group and providing the space for the training.

Participants completed an examination on the final day and expect to receive their results within approximately one to two weeks. We wish each of them the very best as they await the outcome and the opportunity to become certified Peer Support Specialists.

Please join us in congratulating our staff members for their dedication to professional growth and their continued commitment to supporting recovery within our community!

TMRC was proud to take part in the Dunseith Days Parade on Saturday!

Our clients created this beautiful new banner, and team members Nichole and Julie helped bring everything together for the parade. John and Travis are pictured holding the banner in place before the team headed to Dunseith to finish decorating the float.

Thank you to everyone who contributed their creativity, time, and teamwork to help TMRC participate in this special community celebration. We were honored to be part of Dunseith Days!
