Deciding what to do after you graduate? The Fall 2026 All Industries Career & Internship Fair is this Friday, October 16, and is free for all students (and alumni!). Chat with dozens of employers across a wide range of industries, including SPIE, the Washington State Department of Natural Resources, and our own Graduate School. The Fair runs from 12 to 4 p.m. in the Wade King Recreation Center.

After graduating from in 2025 with two years of study at the Institute for Energy Studies, Matthew Benedict joined the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky as an AmeriCorps volunteer and staff member. Since 2024, he’s been helping ensure community needs are represented in the Starfire Solar Project, a proposed development that could eventually power 50,000 homes.

Today we honor Indigenous Peoples’ Day and celebrate the strength, knowledge, and enduring presence of Indigenous communities everywhere. Western’s main campus sits on the ancestral homelands of the Coast Salish Peoples, who have cared for the Salish Sea, San Juan Islands, and North Cascades since time immemorial. We are grateful for their continued stewardship of these lands and waters.

In this plant identification condensed summer course, Abe Lloyd and his students spend eight days together, exploring seven unique wetlands in Whatcom and Skagit counties over the course of three weeks.
