Happy Pride Month, ! 🌈

This month, we celebrate the vibrant LGBTQ+ community that helps make Western a place where people can learn, grow, connect, and be themselves.

We hope you'll join us on Thursday, June 4, for Lavender Graduation in the Viking Union Multipurpose Room as we honor our LGBTQ+ graduates and the journeys that brought them here. Current students and alumni are welcome, and registration is available at the door.

The celebration continues at Pride IN Bellingham on July 8–9, where WWU and LGBTQ+ Western will come together with our broader community to celebrate Pride. Learn more: https://lgbtq.wwu.edu

has been awarded a $3.1 million National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant to expand biomedical student research opportunities on campus.

This funding builds on Western’s strong tradition of hands-on undergraduate research and opens the door for even more students to work alongside faculty on impactful, real-world scientific discovery.

A big thanks to the grant team who made this happen: Professor of Chemistry P. Clint Spiegel, Professor of Psychology Jacqueline Rose, Professor of Chemistry James Vyvyan and Dean of the Graduate School David Patrick.

's Lhaq ’temish-ew’xw e tse XwLemi’ - House of Healing opened this month in a building already steeped in symbolism, cultural heritage and collaboration.

With a gathering hall, teaching kitchen, study lounges, outdoor garden for culturally significant Indigenous plants and a cooking area, the building will serve as a gathering, learning and cultural home for Indigenous students and community members.

“We’ll Leave the Lights On!” 💡🏡🎓📚✨

Created by student Audrey Lee, “We’ll Leave the Lights On!” was gifted to graduating seniors at last weekend’s WWU Block Party. Featuring familiar pieces of student life like Old Main, Mount Baker and symbols inspired by the Bellingham community, the piece reflects the idea that no matter where life leads after graduation, the lights at Western will stay on and WWU graduates will always have a place on campus.

Learn more and see Audrey’s work in person at the Western Gallery, and join us for her artist talk on Tuesday, May 26 at 4:30 p.m.
